Damn Layers!!

Get over it
And I don't mean chickens. I'll try to make this short. I placed a consist on the loop in the accompaning screen. Saved it and closed the game. Came back a short time later and when I loaded the same session there were no tank cars showing. I then tried to place a tank car in front of the boxcar and received the message on the screen. It reads: Error: cannot add train as there is already a train at this location on a hidden layer. Well, I didn't do anything with layers so what gives? How can I see my consist or get rid of it and start over? Tried deleting and it would have deleted my entire route if I hadn't not saved it. I just want to place a consist to the left of the boxcar but there's already a consist there which I can't see. Thanks for any help.

Open your layers tab and click on each layer until your tank cars show up, delete them and then go to your surveyor layer and your boxcar should be back and you can put your tank cars down. Rolling stock should always be on the session layer, I think.

BNSF50, I'm assuming that you mean to click on the session-layer tab. When I do that there are no sessions listed under it. Likewise with the route-layer tab. If I choose delete I get the message that session-layer contains objects and/or track and if I proceed these objects/trains will be deleted too. I did that and all the objects and tracks on the route were deleted. I elected not to save and restored the route. Long story short, I have no list in either route-layer or session-layer in which to delete. I can't delete what I can't see. Thanks for responding.

Sorry that didn't work.
I noticed you have a lot of red items in your abject list which means they're broken in 2010. If you're running in native mode try switching to compatibility mode. Maybe everything will show up then.

This has happened to me in native mode. As you say it is best to open compatability. What gets me though is that I can place the broken stuff in native mode and then cannot re open at a later date without the offending asets going AWOL.

What you need to do is create a new session layer then merge the old session layer with the new one you just created. It should then show anything that is hidden.

Hey guys, thanks again for responding. I'm already in compatibility mode. I placed a loco away from that area and ran it to that spot on the loop and it disappeared but I still saw the smoke so I reversed it and it seemed like it coupled to the invisable consist. Couldn't see anything but smoke from the loco. I deleted the session, went back in and the invisable consist is still there which I'm now assuming that its a route layer that I'm dealing with. I sure don't want to delete my route at the expense of this consist. Maybe some one else can shed some light on this.

just ran into same problem assets arent red but invisible so right now gave the train a driver and heading to a portal then gonna save seesion see if it works
well train dissapeared like i wanted saved session closed out went back into it bang same train theyre? this is in native mode....
Ahhh followed what hert said it was in the route layer so created new session layer 1 merged route with session 1 unit came up but not the cars which were not red but invisible but can see the arrows so i deleted consist and found the cars tied into the engine had faulty bogies
which caused the problem in native and comp mode..........

Thank you to all who responded. Pware, those two links were very helpful and now I think I understand things a little better. Hert, I took your suggestion and got the consist to appear. Went for a short drive session, saved it and when I went back to make sure I did things correctly I had lost everything. All the objects and tracks were gone. All I have left is the terrain and textures. Have tried everything to restore the route but no luck. I tried deleting the route and it won't delete from the route menu. I did save it as a cdp file so all is not lost but I'm really frustrated by all of this. Thanks again for all your suggestions. Back to square one.
