Question #1: I have made some cars using paint shop that I want to share, but the content manager tells me I do not own them. Please explain.
Question #2: I would like to build from scratch, a model of a military cannon car that I did in N gage before the house fire took away everything I owned back in Oregon. can anyone direct me to this process?
Question #3: What am I doin in Romania?

1. maybe you're trying to upload the meshes rather than the reskins of the cars.

2. dunno about that sort of thing. someone else on here should be able to help.

3. Maybe you're lost... :p Top of the webpage... next to the register button. click profile. change as required...

regards

Harry

ps. can I suggest that you use non-italicised text in your posts... Italics can be hard to read unless it's used with a large font size and it might a good idea to ditch coloured text as well. Some people are Colour blind!

Q2: You need a program called GMAX which is free, that many use for creating the models. Then drawings and pics if possible of the item you want.

Follow some tutorials (there are many around) to get started in GMAX, as its quite compicated, but once you have the hang of it, it becomes second nature. Paul Hobbs has posted some tuts here in the forums for loco creation, download them and study)

There are some cannon in the DLS by bendorsey, as well as millions of trestle bridges, he has just made a couple recently.

Q3: I dunno why I am in PA (too darn cold), but thats another story !!!!

Paint shed perhaps? TRS2006? Check the config.txt file and make sure it uses your kuid and that your kuid is registered with Auran DLS.

Basically you need to create the item in a mesh then texture it. Normally you reuse some one elses bogeys by referencing them in the config.txt. I suggest starting with the simple loco tutorial, the only difference between a loco and a car is in the config.txt file. Be prepared for some frustration with GMAX, I found textures frustrating and still do but the box tutorials cover that so you may wish to do them first. Use Paul Hobbs tutorial on how to set up GMAX first though.

I have a word of warning to everyone. I found out how to change my custom creations to my own kuid so that I could up-load them and it removed all from my senario! Now I have to replace them and I forget the exact set-up, so now I have to check to see if my time frames have changed. As we know in programming, change on little thing and it changed the whole result! I will check to see if it work, then I must figure out how to get the complete set-up to load into the senario, ( I could use some help with this, hint hint!!)

You also need to download and install the Trainz Asset Creation Studio. That's a handy little program that manages G-max for you and packs up your finished product for Trainz. it was on the Auran website, but I can't find it today.

 Claude

Q4: Trial for GMAX!? GMAX is a free program; I wasn't aware of a trial.
Open what? the installer? an item done in a different program? a .IM or .PM file? if the latter, you can't.

If you use TRS2006 life is easier, just clone the item. For TRS2004 copy the folder then change the kuid that way you keep both the old version and the new.

 I did not change to kuid for the senario, just the rolling stock that I design. And if it did change, I do not know what the old one was! Before, the cars were (-2:...); if I change the kuid for the session in my files, will it work? I remind you that this a senario I make from cratch, so should be my kuid, correct? Although I had not registered it yet, wouldn't it be default for the software packet?

Which version of Trainz are you using? Are you able to download from the DLS?

Thanks John

kuid:-2:xxxxxx

The kuid's with a leading -2 is what you have before you register your copy of TRS04. Someone else will have to tell you if you can upload kuid:-2's.

My Data

Thanks John
When I open my trainz, I have lost all my sessions and layouts, exsept for one saved session a year ago, but I see them in the files. How do I get them back? kuid:213782:100038 American_Connections

Basics 101

I have some very stupid questions to ask. #1 - What is the difference in "Route" and "Session"? #2 - Should I always save to Route or Session? #3 - How do I save a "Route" to "Senarios"?

As mentioned before, could you please use a simple, black, font? I am interested in the responses to this thread, but can't make out your posts very well in that pale orange font.

Thanks,

Bill

Looks like there are three questions in there but with the color, the italics and bold text i can't see what they are.

If you downloaded them from the Download Station, with Download Helper, they will be automaticly installed in your Trainz 2004. If there are missing dependencies they will not show in Railyard or surveyor.

If you downloaded them from somewhere else just double click on the *.cdp file you downloaded and Content dispatcher will put them in the Trainz directory. There is a better chance that you will be missing parts if you got them this way.

Either way all downloaded content will be in X:/Program Files/Auran/TRS2004/World/Dispatcher/downloads - stored as kuid numbers.
