Hello everyone,
Ever since i discovered trainz 3 years ago now, i discovered that alot of you have put amazing effort in creating routes that no longer exist, the ones that are no longer serviced in real life. I have tryed many times on my own to use what i know about derelict routes to bring them back to life, in trainz at least. By what ive learnt in these forums is that groups of you work on routes collectively to really make sure that there worthy of upload. So im gonna ask you the question that ive been holding back from and become part of a route creating usergroup. I probably could fill the forum with questions that i have on becoming a proper route re-creater so ill narrow what id like to know and let you people give suggestions that may help with my quest. Ive learnt how to create routes in surveyor and populate them with consists and industry and make well novice fictional routes from scratch. Also ive made a crude re-creation of the old Beaudesert line in southeast Queensland. Another attempt at recreation for me is the old Murwillumbah-Casino line, i found the route allready made on the dls and compleatly modifyed it using google earth and by driving along the side of the real track where i could and videoed it took it home and used my dual monitor setup on my pc to try and create what i saw on the video in trainz!. it went ok but ended up slowing my FPS to 10FPS (I was too literal about the trees). My computer is State of the art in home computing terms so maby too many trees?. Anyway here are my summerized questions if your still reading:o .

1: To create a realistic route, how wide should the Baseboards be as in for how far the scenery is visible from the actual track EG. Mountains in the distance with real dence trees to simulate realistic distance mountains instead of just ground textures of trees?

2: Passengers, How do you get AI trains to service a passenger line?. Do you tell the AI consist to go to a station (DRIVE TO) to LOAD passengers first then on the next station UNLOAD then LOAD (As in let passengers ALIGHT then DE-ALIGHT at the same stop) at the one station?

3: Route Length. Ive created routes that are 500KM long only to find that trainz performance is poor when loading and saving. Is it realistic to create routes From Brisbane to Coffs harbor in real kms in trainz?

4: Broad city routes. I have created a route based on a fictional island in trainz. It is modular with a Giant quay seviced by freigt trains and light rail with 6 KM in diamiter Citys with large regional skirting towns like Penrith and sydney relation. It is modular with detailed Coastal towns along the entire coastal fringe (in a sence i created an entire island on around 400 base boards square) Not all of the towns are serviced by rail but by road to simulate remote areas that i can expand track into when i feel like expanding (EG simulating time in trainz, in a sence like sim city) so i can slowly grow my city piece by piece. Is this how some of you dream up routes too?

5: are there trainzers out their that live near Beenleigh that are a user group and how do i participate?

Okie doky i think that ive embarrist myself enogh now:hehe: These questions answered would enhance my trainz expirence, So thanks so much for reading.
Oh? any one interested in creating a HST betwean Brisy and Sydney before its time in trainz, This is on my wish list of routes that id love help to create!

Thankyou all very much! Azurerail! Jared

Azurerail. I only feel qualified to answer no 2 as I seem to be in the same position as you.
When at a station, only the load command needs to be used. (Or unload) You don,t need both. My instructions are Navigate to: Load: wait 5 seconds: horn:
Seems very realistic to me.

As you have Trainz12, you will have the ECML route. Some people have trouble running it but I can run it perfectly smoothe. It all depends on what system you have and how you set it up to run Trainz, plus what settings you have within the Trainz settings too.
What system specs do you have?
By no means do I have all Nvidia settings at the highest, but at the best for me which is a matter of trial and error, although I do have a pretty good system.
I must also add that having a very good hard drive makes all the difference to speed of play. I only use WD Velociraptors for Trains (10'000rpm) as the standard drives (7'200rpm) just can't cope with the high read demand of Trainz on good routes.

It’s advisable to have a minimum of two baseboards from the track, however if the area you are modeling is flat, you’ll need to increase the baseboards to at least three or more.

If you are using TransDEM you can use filters to select the number of baseboards.

The WM & B&O Mega Route Native Mode route has app. 600 miles of right of way. It runs well in TS12.

I would suggest that you try downloading some routes to see how they perform. TrainzProRoutes and checkrail.com have some finely detailed routes with plenty of scenery.

Your answers Helped me

Thanks guys,

Wow what a flood!, You've given me alot to experiment with thank you. But ive heard of trainzDEM but lack knowledge on what it is exactly? A route?.Thanks to Baz66, this was one of my concerns when it came to loading and unloading passenger consists, As with my method passengers were getting on the train and then dissapering at the same station, this made me feel as tho passengers were not being moved properly between stations. But, the real question is- Do the passengers have programming to go to a specific station "OR" are they just designed to be scenery that make the platforms look populated and appear to board the train, but do not actually get transported to specific destinations?.

Thanks Deano5. My pc runs that route at 67FPS 2D and 46FPS 3D, i have no issues with performance when it comes to FPS or loading a standard route. Things will get framy if i create a route with extremely dense speed-tree occourances or with DECpeople (They are Brightly colored high poly static people). My nvidea settings are on maximum, there is only a slight drop in performance, this is the same for my trainz settings too. My PC specs, here they are.

jrfolco, Thanks!, Generaly i use 11-15 baseboards away from the track in an effort to make realistic looking mountains and isolated towns in these mountain valleys. Is there a way to achive what i want differently from my method? There are so many creative minds out their that Blow me away, there are so many things to learn about route creation, but no in game tutorials, where i think would make all the difference. Those routes you mention run Flawlessly and is spectacular, and your point of how many baseboards used for scenery make sence to me, thankyou.

Another question that bugs me is- How do i Upload screenshots from my routes to the forums for all to view, id love to showcase what iv created in trainz!.

I thank all of you again, i do greatly appreciate your time helping a intermediate tranzer. I still welcome more suggestions on operations for industry and passenger lines in trainz.

Hello again.

Here is my first screenshot to this forum. This particular shot is of one of my first working Light rail system. It is a fantasy island that i dreamed of and created based on a real life island that is not developed in real life. The island in question is known as North molle island in Queenslands Whitsundays in Australia. Using google earths mesuring tools and having seen the island personally, I created a very convincing near to true scale of Noth molle island. From its width to its maximum height its serenity is overwhelming. The island route has 8 Light rail stations conecting the four resorts via a one way Double lines. The entire light rail system is Electric. I created this route over 1 year and is my maiden route. Every part of this route was created from scratch by me. There are more shots of this route and i will post them when i have finished converting the other shots. This Screenshot will give you a good idea of how far i take trainz in acheiving milestones. As for newer routes i will start a new thread in general trainz for showcase on my Trainz journey thus far. The name of the island was chosen because the name trinity fits as it is rarly used to name islands, and it is beautifull. Coments welcome on these screenies. This is my first attempt of uploading screenshots and wont be perfect.

Looking at your screenshots shows that you have a lot of potential as a route builder.
TransDEM is a terrain generating software that enables you to export a given geographical area into Trainz. There's a link to the site on my webpage.

It just takes time to become proficient at route construction. The more you build, the better you become. In addition, there's no limit to the help that you can find on this forum.

Good Luck,
Joe

Very nice route building. If I were you, though I would replace the default track with something better. There are plenty of tracks available on the various freeware websites and on the DLS that are far nicer looking than that old flat strip-track with weird looking railroad ties and rails.

Screenshots of latest Project

Hello all.

Ive been spending time taking Screenshots of my latest Major route project titled Azure Island Queensland (Not trinity island route). This project has been mentioned in posts by me in the past in other threads. Now as its a very complex prosess, this project is by no means even 20% finished. But It will give all of you a taste of my most current project. All of these shots are current, however at very different stages of development even through they are of the same route. At this time i have 3 BETA towns and arount 6 others that are in an alpha state (Not all of the alpha towns are shown here). Allthrough i cant give a timescale on how long it will take to bring my route to a stage in which i can share, i will keep you all updated!. A note about my track textures, as i am considered new to trainz, your imput on payware or freeware that may be of use to me would be a great help as i still have a lot to learn about route creation. Also im experiencing many problems with the game at this time and are eagerly awaiting HOTFIX 3 as i cant work on my route modularly as merging doesent work, id love to know when it is to be released. And thank you for your supportive comments.
EnJoY!

NOTE: MORE SCREENIES TO COME. Including my Modernized Beaudesert Line in Southeast Queensland Australia made to scale, My vision on what should be done with that line!. Or how about My Modernized Brisbane to Murwillumbah HST line also made to real scale.
