CSX is Green, but UP and BNSF...

It is so exciting to see the 'Green' comments about CSX.

They are so good to the people and for the people.

Sorry to hear about the California children getting sick. Perhaps they should get the railroads to move the school so as not to pollute the air and the children.

Hope that they were not carrying the tainted cantaloupe.:o

And no, not everything makes Californians sick, I lived there for 7 years and enjoyed the wonderful National Parks, the beaches, the trees and...the wine.

The BNSF/UP story is about as stupid as the guy I saw on the news a few years back complaining because he moved into a house right beside the WMSR.

And who cares we use steam on tourists railroads and do you see them thinking its bad yea right. Our country cares more about the pollution than to do more important things like catch truckers no using there fridge units on there food to save money which is a problem for people buying food. They said they pass a bill for this and here we are 5 years later and nothing.

Talk about a joke nobody cares about anything unless it hurts the environment.

I live in California, and I say that most of the pollution is caused by the freeway traffic, such as the 405, 10, 5, 110, etc. People do not know much about the railroading system by my knowledge and what i hear people say about it. They just assume that it is the railroads fault. Consider the fact that cars produce more pollution than trains. I should know, I have asthma. Does not mean locomotives caused it. People drive in cars every single day. I used to go to school right next to a small set of track where BNSF switching locomotives used to always go up and down the track. Is is specifically the trains fault for pollution, no.

Kind of funny that they are the ones to complain, all their pollution (cars, factories, etc...) gets swept right into the Central Valley....... Oh yes! the scenic Central Valley where the air is so brown that it blends the sky and ground together as one! They shouldnt complain when they are not even seeing half of the pollution they create..... and really? blamming the railroad for the work of millions of cars? yah thats just great... chalk this up as a win for humanity guys :Y:  :n: :n:

Of course this comes from a resident who is having a power plant built under a mile away from their house by a county whose jurisdiction goes out to a place where it has no business being. Oh yah "we'll just build this plant on the edge of our county over the hills where WE can't see it and let that other county deal with the polution, just like the five other industries we put there..." Not cool... :n:

[End Rant]

cheers

A. Just because some children get sick doesn't mean it's because of air pollution.

B. If the cause is pollution, it's not necessarily the railroads fault.

C. "They [the railroads] just want money"....ok, how do they make more money by producing more pollution? (which I don't think they're doing anyway)

D. As long as the railroads are following pollution laws, suing them is just going to waste their money, their time, your money, your time, your lawyer's time, and our courtroom which could be used to do something actually productive.

E. Just because someone is doing something that YOU don't think is right DOESN'T MEAN YOU NEED TO SUE THEM.

my 10 cents..:)

They want to throw out less, because the less un-burnt stuff that goes into the air, the less they have to spend on fuel.

Its California, every thing makes them sick.

Well, what dosen't? There's always stuff that has the sticker that says that something can't be shipped to California. I remember a few years back, we came into Cali from Las Vegas and we had to go thru an inspection booth because nobody could bring in veggies and fruits in. And yes, everything there does once again.:hehe: :p

Well UP sucks so there isn't any surprise there. I'm glad that they're doing that. now if only SP was around, I bet the schools would be asking them to come around more often due to our friendliness. But that's out of the solution. BNSF I'm shocked. But nonetheless it is what it is.

I bet they wouldn't.

Come here kids, who wants a lungful of our friendly exhaust?

seriously, if UP is bad, BNSF is just as bad in wise of pollution, and even though i love the SP, their locomotives spewed a lot of diesel exhaust, have you seen the videos of SP locomotives, it looks pretty bad

Well back then that's how it was every RR was like that considering the SD40-2s, GP40-2s, GP38s, GP38ACs, GP38-2s, GP39s, SD39s, SD38s, SD38-2s, SD45s, SD50s, and GP50s along with any loco that used EMD 567s or 645s where like that and no one was complaining about then but now they want spew out crybaby crap. and even the Dash 8s, AC44s, and Dash9s had pollution, which was considered modern and cleaner loco models so it was like that in the 1990s, all RR's in America back then had that issue.

Sorry, but isn't this the good old U.S of A we're talking about?

I thought that was a constitutional right for you guys.:p

Matt.

What are they going to do if they start building all that high speed rail they want? I put this right up there with their electric cars and refusal to build more power plants.

Matt.

We thoroughly believe in a person's right to be stupid here. We just get a little ticked off when some abuse the privilege. The whole country isn't off it's rocker, just a select few.

Dave.......

In related topic news up here in Gevo-land. (Erie,Pa) GE Transportation Has announced 360 new jobs. And is investing 136 million in upgrades to the locomotive plant for its emissions testing facilities. Most of which will ready them for the new stricter emissions laws which will take affect in 2012 through 2015. GE is also a reliable forecaster of where the economy is headed.
