Ok First A question. What is the name of the Sub that the CSX line that runs from Selkirk Yard in Albany,NY to Syracuse,NY? And i am trying to make it for TRS2006 But i'm not very good at designing routes:p .
So could someone make this for me please it would take a while. I'm local to Utica,NY(Smack dab in the middle of the route) If someone wants a project. But after your done can you post a link on this site because my DLS isnt working :'( . I know it's a lot to ask but thanks!!!!

Chandler,

Before you take on a large project like this, I suggest that you start small, perhaps with a 2 or 3 baseboard-size layout so you can get used to the tools and techniques of route building. This will vastly improve your skills, and you'll learn a ton of stuff along the way.

The other thing too, when you take on a large project such as the CSX line through Upperstate New York, you are in for a lot of work. I'm saying this as a route builder myself. A large project like this can become a drag and a really daunting task to handle.

Anyway, if you want to check out something that might be useful when the DLS is working, check out the blank terrains created by "Fishlipsatwork". He's a former Trainz developer that retired from the scene to dedicate some time to other projects. Search the DLS for his log in name, and you'll see a ton of the precreated landscapes ready to lay your route on. You can go as far as stiching them together if needed.

These are terrains that are created from DEM files, and made with the HOG utility. You need the HOG textures in order to see the TIGER maps on the surface of the terrain. Rail lines are one color, roads are another, water is blue, etc. I know he's created one for the Bath & Hammondsport, but I'm not sure if there's anything for greater Utica.

Anyway, you load the terrains into Surveyor and put your track down on the track is, and roads where they would go, etc.

I hope this gives you something to work with, or at least a start in the right direction.

John

I just looked at some of fishlips stuff i'm thinking about trying Binghamton-Albany what do you think?

That is a big one. File size on DEMs can tell you if a route is small. Look up the ONCT DEM for an example, that is a small one. Stamford CT and OMID are a couple of others. It also depends on where you are looking to do a route in.
