Creating extra skins for S&C Black 5

The S&C Black 5s/8Fs have 3 or 4 different numbers available for each kind of loco, and I was just wondering whether it would be possible to 're-skin' another layer, to include a different running number and a nameplate? I'm just thinking of giving some locomotives fictional names for a bit of 'personalisation'.

Is that possible or realistically easy for an inexperienced re-skinner?

*Edit: Or something like the Peckett 0-4-0s from the PLL pack?

The real question would be did they use ARN with those locos? If they did it'd be as easy as editing the script IIRC.... If not, then they're probably static models in which case I'm sure you could reskin them, unless you bought them as DLC content, in which case they're probably built in content and can't be edited anyway. The scripting would probably be encrypted as well.

However, even if you were successful, being payware you're not allowed to distribute them without the direct consent, in writing, of the original Creators, and if you got the DLC packs, Auran might have a say in that as well (I honestly don't know how the agreement between uk.trainz or w/e and Auran would specifically affect this, assuming you're able to do all of this in the first place).

Well, if you look up the black 5 in CMP, you'll find that it uses a set randomly selected number textures, so you need to clone that, clone the Black 5, then give your black 5 the new texture asset.

To add a nameplate to the Black 5 you'd need to create an extra mesh, texture it and attach it to the loco body in the right place. That's probably going to be too tricky. The PLL Pecketts are easier as the nameplates are on the main texture, assuming that the new name isn't longer than there is space on the plate...

That's the way to do the Black 5.

Never said you should sir. Just editing an ARN Script is a heck'uva lot easier then reskinning entirely..... He said he just wanted personalized Names/Numbers which is the about the ONE instance where this merit is moderately handy, but there ya go.
