Hello everyone. I know , weird intro - thats me.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of any free content creating software thingumies that I could create content for Trainz with?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

For routes and sessions: Try Surveyor (comes with Trainz).
For html assets and script items: Try notepad (comes with Windows).
For any kind of structure (buildings, train vehicles, etc): Try Blender.

For every kind of content creation: Bring patience, time, and some more time. Also learning how to search (these forums for example) or reading the WiKi will help a lot.

For future questions regarding Content Creation, please post in the right forum:

Good luck! :)

For Blender go to this thread:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?104706-ABSOLUTE-BEGINNER-BLENDER-FOR-TRAINZ

I found Blender impossible until I found that thread.

Tried them all 3ds Max, Gmax, 3d Crafter/Canvas and Sketchup, and was only successful in content creation after those Blender tutorials.

They make Blender easy.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz look under asset creation. Some people like one style of tutorial others a different one so if one doesn't make sense try another. I'd suggest Blender for content creation but there is a learning curve.

I prefer Blender. Most older members here do remember a time when the interface for it wasn't so user-friendly until release 2.5. I strongly suggest using Blender because A: It's free. B: Great alternative to 3DS Max.

I actually liked the interface from 2.49, if anything build 2.5 onwards took a little bit of getting used to for me personally. Odds on if I had to go back I probably wouldn't like it in hindsight! :hehe:

You have the Mac Trainz so you can only use Blender and you may need to get the Mac 2 as 1 will not make CDPs.
