CP Slocan Lake Subdivision(warning pictures)

might be back?
Well guys, here it is. My first (almost. Time to add grass an shrubs) completed route. The route is called the Canadian Pacific Slocan Lake Subdivision. The track plan is based off of the layout on page 78 of the April 2009 issue of Model Railroader. The route itself is one baseboard big, and is in N-Scale, but the entire thing is extended about a basemap around it to make it look nice. It is based off of the branchlines that CP ran up until the 1980s, and serves a sawmill. The locomotives and rolling stock arrive by barge.

Anyway, let's sit back and watch as a CP freight runs the line.

The GP9U and the rolling stock arrive at the slip near Rosebery yard.

The engineer connects the two halves of the train and unloads it from the barge, before heading to Rosebery yard.

The engine then runs around the rest of the train with the caboose.

After dropping the caboose next to the yard storage building, the engine then cuts the bulkhead flatcar from the rest of the train before running back around and hooking back up to the front.

With the train complete, the GP9U heads across Moose Creek and into the tunnel.

Upon emerging on the other side, the train creeps into the pulpwood siding and drops off the bulkhead flatcar. The flatcar will be filled over the next few days, and will be picked up on the next run. The Bulkhead dropped off, the train reverses back into the tunnel before heading into the 2.3% grade up to the sawmill at Nakusp.

Upon arriving at the sawmill, the engineer throttles down to lower his speed to the 15mph yard limit. The first order of business is to drop off the flatcars at the sawmill. The geep runs around the train and pushes the flatcars into the loading bay.

Next, the two woodchip cars are positioned under the unloader. Unfortunately the one unloader wasn't working so only one car was loaded. This would complicate loading the barge later on.

With the Caboose serving as a spacer car, the train then pics up the loaded flatcars. It then picks up the Wood Chip hoppers.

With dynamic breaks whining, the train then heads back down the grade, and emerges from the tunnel a few minutes later.

The cars have to be balanced on the barge, so each car of the train, including the locomotive, have to be spotted on the train scale at Rosebery yard.

The geep then runs around the train for the last time before carefully loading the entire train on the barge. The placement of the cars is dependent on the weight.

The pulpwood car dropped off, and the train loaded, and locked down on the barge, it begins the journey back to Slocan City, B.C.
