Correcting content for TRS2009

Currently I have amongst the content I have created content that has a TRS2004 version, a TRS2006 version, a TC3 version and a version that works in TRS2009. At first glance I had 267 items that needed to be corrected but when I came to look more closely many items have a later version number that does run correctly error free in TRS2009 or there is a different kuid with a later Trainz version TC3 for example that runs error free in TRS2009.

Keeping track of which one works in TRS2009 native mode is a problem for me. I'm very tempted to just go through the whole lot and up the version number to 2.9 if it is error free in TRS2009. Different versions of the same item that currently have TRS2004, TRS2006 labels on it would be consolidated into a single kuid.

Thoughts please. Remember the older earlier version stuff remains on the DLS but may not be directly visible.

Thanks John

I think if you upload it as 09, unless you upload as a completly new kuid number, then you would lock out anybody that does not have 09, from downloading it anymore. I'm uploading mine as they were originally, 06, but with the repairs to work in 09.

Probably the question to ask is is do I care?

I've created in TRS2004, TRS2006 and put up TRS2006 versions on the DLS, I have arranged for TRS2004 versions to also be available, same for TC3. The number of versions and items is getting unwieldy. If I obsolete something on the DLS it stays there on the DLS you just have to search a but harder to find it and download it. However I can simply delete from my system which means I no longer have to worry about it having an error in TRS2009.

Also if you have TRS2009 which items are error free? If they say TRS2009 then you can assume they are error free in TRS2009 native mode. If they say TRS2004 how do you know if its going to work or not?

Basically the question is becoming why should I put myself out for some one who can't be bothered to spend $30 and get up to date software.

Good questions. I've typically used the lowest build number I could (with a base of 2.4) that supported the features I used in an object. I typically go along and make sure my older content works with the new versions, and upload updates to fix any issues that arise, while keeping the original build number. However, I don't really feel like spending a bunch of time testing everything in '04, '06, TC3, and now '09 - I'd rather spend my time working on something new. Besides, like you say, how does anyone know that the older objects work in '09?

'09 seems to be stable enough, with enough new improvements, that I don't know if I will bother running the older versions any more. I'm thinking that I might also just start releasing new objects as '09 only (once my DVD arrives!)

I think the other issue is scripts. TC3 and TRS2009 are much more solid in this area and have fewer problems.

Oh well let's see what unfolds, perhaps a comment from some one who thinks that only content made in TRS2004 should be on the DLS?
