Content Updater

I seem to have an issue with the content updater. I selected to download all from the menu and it proceeds to download the first item in the list. When the blue progress bar is completed for the first download, it seems to just stall right there. It does not proceed to the next item in the list even after leaving it for an hour. If I close the updater and try again it does the same thing every time. Any ideas?

Also...

Am I correct in assuming that the content manager is basically the same as the content updater but with more options? Why are there two updaters?

And...

If you click help button on the content manager then "view help" it directs you to this page: http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/Help:Content_Manager But all the red help links lead you to an empty page that says "There is currently no text in this page." Shanes help is outdated apparently because the 2012 I purchased has different options and I could not follow along. Where is the help for the 2012 content manager?

I had that problem for large assets (more than 5 MB) until I upgraded my Internet connection (from 3 to 30 Mbit/s) and also changed ISP. I don't have a First Class Ticket, so downloads are pretty slow even with a faster Internet, but now at least they complete. My guess is that it was a local problem with my previous connection not being able to maintain the connection for long times. Unless you already have a FCT, you may want to try that. Or change ISP...

The content updater is really just for updating out of date assets in a convenient way (well, if it works ;)). You can't do anything else with it, but it does keep track of which of your assets that have more recent versions. You can see that also in the Content Manager if you know how to filter things, but the content updater does that little piece of work for you. For anything else that requires downloading or any other handling of assets, you should use the Content Manager.

There is a description of the Content Manager in the extended TS12 manual that should be part of your TS12 installation. There is a Manual button on the TS12 start screen that opens it up. You can also find it in the Documentation folder in your TS12 installation.

Hope this helps.

Parts of my help may be outdated anyway, as I've currently got TS2010.

TS12 does meanwhile have an in-game Content Updates section, which can be used to download content updates whilst the game is running.

Can I ask in which area it has different options, as other TS12 users have used my tutorials OK?

I've had the in-game updater stall as well. That's why I always use CM to update contents these days - search for "Out of date"="True" & "Location"="Local"; if you save this search you'll have easy access to it in a Tab next time you want to update content. If CM stalls you just click Stop + Start to make it continue.

Shane, where it goes differently is in steps 2 & 3. You have 2 additional search filters that do not appear in my version. These options are not very intuitive and I had no idea how to proceed from there with my version.

Anyway, my troubles were fixed when I finally managed to get the correct paypal screen up to purchase the 1st class ticket. Seems this corrected the problem for NickieFoenshauge also. (starting/stopping download did not help BTW) Now I can understand that Auran would want to cripple download speeds for free users but they shouldn't make it completely unworkable. I don't think this is fair business since they claim its a free service as a sales pitch for Trainz 2012. No big deal really... but its unlikely that I will go to Auran for anything I can purchase elsewhere in the future as result.

erafjel, thanks for the info! I didn't see that the manual was in that folder.

Great forum folks and I appreciate all the replies and assistance!

The "Location" and "Out of date" entries are there in TS12 as well, so no worries. Just need to use that little + icon just above the Apply button...
