Content Manager - Tips and Tricks (any version)

Hello,

Searched all over, can't find an answer, this thread seems to be where to ask.

I bought a First Class Ticket 4 days ago and found a bunch of problems since I can actually download at a fast speed, fixed some faulty dependencies problems, everything seems to work real good, except one thing...

The problem is after downloading 1-?? assets (random amount), then clicking on another asset I want to view, the asset details box shows Downloading Preview..., Downloading Description..., and then the Content Manager freezes. Task Manager shows it as Not Responding. The TADDaemon.exe shows CPU = 00 but is still running. I tried letting it run over night one time and nothing. Still frozen. I can End Task on the Content Manager and the TADDaemon says running at 00 CPU. At this point I reboot and it all works fine again for a while, then freezes again randomly. Sometimes I can download 20+ assets, sometimes it does it before I can download even one asset. Is this just a bug I have to deal with, or any other suggestions? Details of the install as follows...

TS12 ver 61388
Content Manager 3.7
First Class Ticket 1 year activated.
I always clear the Download Helper right away
Have done the Extended Database Repair several time, finds no errors
Program is set to 'Run as Administrator'
Windows 8.1 fully patched Core i7-3517u 4Gig RAM
Ran the Windows Compatibility Troubleshooter

This can sometimes be caused if TrainzUtil (another of Trainz's background processeses) is processing assets as well. Check at the bottom of the screen to see if this is indeed the case - in some cases, using Ctrl and C on the offending TrainzUtil window (which effectively tells it to close) can bring Content Manager back to life. This especially seems to be the case if you are running TS12 SP1 (build 57720 or higher on the Launcher). Note - do not do this with the TADDaemon window though, as this will cause a database repair to be required next time you launch the game.

Shane,

Thanks for the ultra fast response. I had the Task Manager open and downloaded about 30 assets this time before it froze. I watched the TrainzUtil process start and close and start and close. A few times 2 instances of it were running at one time. When it froze this time both trainzUtil's were at 00 and were idle and did not close. I ended the Content Manager that was not Responding, and the TADDaemon and both trainzUtil processes still remain open at 00% CPU.

I tried pressing Ctrl - C on the TrainzUtil processes which had no effect. I rebooted and opened the Task manager and watched as 4 instances of TrainzUtil ran and waited until all 4 closed normally. Then began downloading, after about 10 assets it froze again.

Any other suggestions?

I also was having problems with CM freezing up yesterday and the day before. Each time I had to force it to close and of course got punished for it with the database repair. I found something that seems to work. The next time you need to use Content Manager, first go into the game bring up a map in Surveyor Mode. Then exit it and the game. Restart the Trainz program and go into Content Manager. It should now be working and again and not appear to be froze up.

For some reason I am unable to turn off the buzzer you get from the aws, I have tried pressing the button on screen and pressing insert on the keyboard all to no avail. Any ideas?

anyone else getting really slow downloads? 7.85 Kbps is really a joke, especially after the DHR website had to take down there download due to hacking :( i know the info has to come all the way from australia to the UK, but after paying, it went from 4KBps to only 7KBps. the "lightning fast" FCT is a joke and a scam!

okay, it's not a scam. mine were at 60Kbps today at least.

either you have anyone using your internet besides you at the same time or you have a VERY slow internet connection.

There is no scam. What's probably happened is that the FCT hasn't been activated properly. Go to Planet Auran > Download Tickets > First Class Ticket then click the Activate link next to it then follow the prompts.

The second thing you must do is clear your download helper list in Content Manager if you have anything in it. If you fail to do this, anything already in the list will download at non-FCT speed.

Shane

well im pretty sure i have fast internet, people actually get me to download stuff onto hard drives for them and then take the file over to the rehouse as its so fast :)

also, yes it is activated, i went to planet auran and turned out i also had a free one HAHA!

also, really? i have to clear my DL list and add them all back again? that cant be true, i have over 2GB of stuff queued from a few days worth of non stop DL station and content manager trawling!

EDIT!!!

I guess that highlight them all in content manager > show in main list > delete ones from DL queue and then highlight all in main list then download again?

double edit, and now it decided to sign me into my old account?

PS Shane turner, how did you get the kickstarter backer badge! i pledged and didn't get one :O :(

You should have had an email from anewera (at) n3vgames.com - check it's not in the spam folder. If not, contact Tony via the Contact Me page on the Kickstarter site.

I have been having a recurring issue with downloading in TS12 recently; most of the time when I am using the download helper the blue loading bar will be completely filled and stay that way yet the asset never downloads. Sometimes I can get through 1-2 downloads before this will happen. Does anybody know what is causing this?

This issue can crop up at any time, but there are a few things that can cause it.

Firstly, if you haven't got an activated First Class Ticket, it's more likely to happen with larger downloads due to timeout issues.
Secondly, there have been issues regarding the installing of downloaded assets. There is a way of dealing with this side, but it does mean that you would have to re-download the asset you are trying to download, and also involves deleting files/folders. Let me know if you wish to take this route.
Thirdly, if your Trainz build version is less than 49922, you may get an improvement by patching to that version. The patches are available at http://www.auran.com/servicepacks - you will need the one where the first number in the patch filename matches your current build number on the Launcher, and you will need to temporarily turn off your antivirus software during the process.

Thanks Shane, I think it's the first thing you mentioned because I have not used a FCT in a while. The downloads usually do stall on larger assets.

Thanks,
Brendan

I keep getting the "?" "UNKOWN LOCATION" next to my downloads. What is this and how do I get it corrected and get my content in the game? Help!!

Unknown Content usually means that you need to either get a later version of the game (i.e. TS12) or patch your current version. In some cases though it means content that is not on the Download Station.
