Content Manager - Tips and Tricks (any version)

This may have been posted before but its a really simple tip. When I download a lot of content I often forget exactly what I have downloaded so I take a photo of the list in CM on my mobile phone then when I open Surveyor I have a handy list of everything ready to go.

For TS12, you've got the Content Filter feature in Surveyor that can help with that, as you can specify 'Date Installed=(current date)' as the search term.

Thanks! I pretty much jacked Trainz in a couple of years ago and I am something of a Man Friday as a result

No problem. Perhaps I should do a blog entry at some point covering some of the more confusing/not so often used Surveyor features.

Any ideas on why CM seems to stop on large downloads mainly over 15mb, Starts download shows progress gets to end, fully coloured bar, then speed falls away over time and then stops, without installation.Any ideas, also happens on updates menu, and some sites say connection to server is broken mainly Trainzup content updates. Perplexing problem as small downloads are fine.

OK - what I would suggest doing is a quick database repair. This should help sort things out. Do not do an extended one as this will make things worse.

Failing that, unless you are going to be using the assets in Multiplayer, you may do better using the web-based version (clicking Download Station above then using the search feature there, then when you find the asset clicking Download Page then Download (FTP).

Again on the topic of Content Manager, and the Download Station generally..... I've been trying to do two small downloads for over a week and every time I get the error "Unable to download, the server appears to be full," regardless of the time of day. I've also tried the website, but the FTP links have gone bad. Then I get the error "Unable to Connect," regardless of whether I'm using Firefox or IE. What's the matter with it? I would think if I'm doing something wrong it would tell me.

Keep clicking it every so often, and a slot may open up

Like....ummm.....continuing to turn the key on a car with a bad carb? I'm worried that it may have something to do with the "New Era" project, with their trying to push us out of older versions and content that will actually run on our computers. I don't really have time to build the two downloads myself, so if I can't get them for 2009, then I'll just have to go without them. It's a shame, though. I'm working on a 148+ mile mainline right now, not counting some branches, secondaries, and so on, that probably push the system mileage over 300 easily. If I'm blocked from using the DLS and so on that's a major disadvantage, especially if others are also blocked from obtaining the dependencies for it (at least if I ever get around to releasing it).

The other day I had 60 some content updates listed when I logged into Trainz but I didnt take the time to review them or download. Yesterday I did a quick database repair (had purchased and downloaded 20+ assets), today I show 8 content updates, what Im wondering is, did the database repair automatically update the necessary assets, or were the content updates removed from the list? Thanks

It may be that the database repair determined that some of the assets didn't actually have any updates (either that, or the assets you downloaded happened to be the updates)

Shane

Thank you Shane, the updates were listed prior to downloading any other assets, so it seems that CM does have some tricks with content updates and quick database repairs.

Do I have to download objects ONLY from the DLS for the download helper to work? It keeps saying "Cannot find kuid________. Object cannot be found on the DLS" Please help. Thanks!

I just wondering is there anyway of selecting all the updates and download at one time after you start the trains game and click updates?

Welcome to the forums.

Not in TS2010 I'm afraid - that feature was added in TS12.

You can use Content Manager to do it (if you have a First Class Ticket, due to the large amount of updates that's likely) - see the thread in my signature for a link to my tutorial on how to do this.
