Content Manager - Tips and Tricks (any version)

If it's less than 44088, have a read of another of my stickies in General Trainz - the Can I Patch My Version one. Bear in mind that if it is 43361, you will not be able to patch it.

If you are now patched to at least 44088 you should be fine unless you want the Aerotrain or the Multiplayer beta, both of which require (a) further patch(es).

For Shane,

Every now and then Content Manager (3.6) loses my saved searches and I end up with the default set. I'm guessing this has happened about 5 or 6 times since installation (when TS12 was released). I don't prowl all the forum threads but don't recall anyone else reporting it. A Google search didn't help or maybe I wasn't using the right search pattern.

Two questions:

Do you know what causes it, and
Are the saved searches stored in a particular file so I can back it up!

I added a new search and looked in the most likely places in my TS12 installation and didn't see anything obvious.

TIA

Hi Paul,

The only time I've personally lost saved searches is when I've reset tabs to default.

As for files, I've just had a look in my Trainz install and cannot seem to find any relevant files, which tells me that it's either stored in the registry, or somewhere in one of the .dll or .exe files.

Don't recall setting my filters to the default - in fact it took me a while to figure out how to do that. I do registry "cleans" occasionally using Winzip's System Utilities but I haven't done one for a while so I'm not blaming that.

As I said, this happens occasionally but I cannot associate it with anything I have done. It wouldn't be in a dll or exe since they are executables but perhaps in one of the mystery data files that get refreshed by Trainz. I'll keep looking.

Thanks.

Hi Shane, I'm a newcomer here so please excuse me, I have done a search through your very informative tutorials but fails to mention a problem I have if you could please help me, or direct me somewhere that can, I use the content manager for downloading routes etc. normally the small files e.g 54kb are not a problem, but when I D/L a larger file 37MB for example is ok until I reach the end of the D/L (the blue box is full) then the download speed just cuts off for no reason and cannot restart it , if I delete the asset it restarts the D/L but then again it stops at the very end, any ideas Shane? would be very grateful if you have any advice you or anyone else could give me, thank you. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The issue you mention is well known, and the only workaround is to use the Download Station link above, then searching for the asset (making sure all the boxes on the left are ticked, then following the instructions to download using FTP. (you may need to login first).

Shane

P.S. Welcome to the forums.
