Content Manager and Trainz 2006 / Classics.

Hi all.

I have a few questions regarding Trainz 2006 and Trainz Classics. I just bought the Trainz pack last weekend (both games in one pack), and I'm loving the game so much since. However, I'm stumped with the Content Manager.

1. How do I make my Content Manager download to Trainz 2006 instead of Trainz Classics? Just wondering since when I downloaded a few train stuff from DLS here, my Content Manager put the train stuff in Trainz Classics. I'd like the stuff to go in Trainz 2006 to go with the dozens of locos and rolling stock already installed in Trainz 2006.

2. Would it be easier if I copied all the locos, rolling stock, routes, scenarios, etc. from Trainz 2006 to Trainz Classics? If so, how do I go about doing that?

3. What folders and where do I find the loco, cars, etc. files to transfer between Trainz 2006 and Trainz Classics?

4. Why does Trainz Classics not have the locos, cars, routes, etc. from Trainz 2006? Can I make it so that both versions have the same of everything?

Thanks!

Hi Veristeek,

Welcome!

There are ways of transferring content from 2006 into TC (there's a few previous posts on the subject). However, there is a good reason for the TC version not having previous versions' content. There are a number of assets (Trainz speak for parts of a model) which were "buggy" - i.e. they didn't work as expected.
Because these were part of 2006 (and older versions), these simulators were fixed to recognise these problems and to work around them.

With TC, Auran decided to housekeep, and a lot of the built-in content was removed. This results in faster software and less problems - however it does restrict what is available....

You can download 2006 assets into TC - with the risk that they won't all work! (same risk for downloading 2004 or earlier assets into 2006).

As for directing which version - you need someone else's help...

Cheers,

Colin

Page 64 of the TC manual explains how to transfere stuff
from 06 to TC.

To download to TC or 06, first open the sim that you wish to download to. You can use CMP to select your downloads from the DLS.
OR go to the DLS and click on 'download (helper)'. When you do this the last Trainz that you opened will grab the download.

Cheers

If I'm downloading from the Download Station, I'll open up CMP for either TRS2006 or TRS Classics, depending on which one I'm downloading to.
When it starts downloading, the CMP bar at the bottom of the screen will turn orange and start flashing.
I'll look at CMP and it will be sitting there waiting for me to click on Start to download.

Got it guys. Thanks so much for your help! It was a bit confusing for me since I got two Trainz games in one. At least I got it straightened out with your help, guys.

I have just one more question. Are Trainz Service Pack 3 stuff from DLS compatible with TRS2006? They worked for me in Classics- particularly the Amtrak coaches (Cafe car and coach, both Phase III and IV) and F40PH loco. Just wondering since I don't want to re-download these Amtrak stuff all over again for TRS2006 if I can help it.

it freezez? thats a bad sign, i had to reinstall my game when it crashed because we had a TON of viruses. BUT, before u try reinstalling it, check if everything in CMP is 'commited'. if so you maght not have enough ram to run the game, trainz 2006 requires at LEAST 512, mb of computer ram to even RUN! a god amount is about 1gb. i have 1.5 gb so i'm ok.

first of all i can't find my serial number
second i cant download anything with out my serial number.

Can anyone tell me where it would be?

thanks

If you registered your copy of Trainz your serial number will be in your profile. Click the word 'Profile' on the top menu bar.

Mike.
