Can stuff for trainz be made with google sketch up? If so, can someone give me a tutorial on how to put it into trainz for testing and how to animate the wheels?

I am not sure that sketch up can manage animation although someone may correct me ?

You can use sketchup to make models yes. However you will still need to know a bit of GMAX or Blender. as once you have built the model in ScketchUp Pro you will need to export it for GMAX, then finish it (textures, animations, attachments, etc) in GMAX. Then you can export it from GMAX into TRS. So yes you can; but you might as well just learn to use GMAX or Blender.
a side note; I would assume you could use Blender for the exporting and such instead of GMAX; I've never used blender so I cannot say for certain.

I see, but Google Sketch Up is the only one that works on my school laptop. Does GMAX work with Macintosh?

yes it can (if it didn't I wouldn't have suggested it) for both GMAX & Blender you will need to download the Development tools for the program those may require you to have a windows machine (I'm 99% sure they will) however you can do all your modeling on your mac then export on the windows.
