Folks on here moaning about the blanket TV coverage of the wedding , here's a simple work around ...... GO PLAY TRAINZ

I have twice already today and it was GOOOOOOD

In fact so good I'm going to do it again .......

Actually, let me rephrase that. I get why the UK is all happy and stuff. Good for them. But why the hell is the US getting all swept up in this whole figurehead marriage hoopla.

There is a big celebrity obsession in both the U.S. and the U.K. from what I've seen, that's why tabloids sell. Overall I don't get it, but I can see how this is more newsworthy than what Snooki thinks of Southpark or what a hot mess Lindsay Lohan is today.

Hi Everybody.
Well I was one of the many British citizens who said they were not going to watch any part of the wedding today. However, I turned on the news at 8 AM this morning to see people who had been sleeping in the open on the mail being interviewed by the BBC. I then became interested and found myself still watching at 2 PM this afternoon when it all came to an end.

I have to say I loved the service at the Abbey with all the magnificent colour, music and singing which harked back to a different era when the Anglican church was the pillar and centre of British society. The bride and groom carried out there parts with great dignity tinged at times with smiles and laughter which captivated so many of us.

The carriage procession back from the Abbey to the palace was again magnificent with the horse guards alongside the coaches in a manner and spectacle that you will never see anywhere else in the world.

Yes, this is not the real world. Terrible things are happening in any number of countries and places on this troubled planet. However, it is nice once in a while to be lifted away from all that and be submerged into something so pleasant, so stunning and so engaging that all the troubles can be forgotten if only for a few hours.

I am not a sentimental person normally but I have to admit there were several times when I found myself with a large lump in my throat and having difficulty in speaking. It was a great spectacle which lifted not only the estimated 1 million people around the Abbey, mail and palace through tears of joy but also helped many more millions watching around the world to forget their troubles for a few hours and join with Britain in seeing something so historic, dazzling and charming.

has anybody noticed that virtually everyone defending the wedding is from the UK, while most everyone who's against it is from elsewhere? :hehe:

I'm not against it..I watched it....like many Americans...but I think you have to be British to get the full impact of the event. I just enjoy watching the kings and queens of places-I've-never-heared-of-lands process along in their Bentleys, Rolls, Jags, Range Rovers, carriages, and Toyota Camry (did anybody notice the red Camry in the line-up? lol). :)

My reaction to the high level view of the west face of Westminster Abbey was that I was in Surveyor and somebody had laid a length of Auran invisible track into the Abbey :)

Despite the over-televisation (new word) of the event we mustn't forget that this is, after all, a wedding where two people are coming together.
I wish them the very best.
Joe:)

Bill, I am with you on this one. I never intended to watch all of it either but did and enjoyed it for all the reasons you gave. For once I did not turn on my TV to see another bunch of Arabs throwing rocks at each other and I know all about the trouble around the rest of the world. For a while I could step back from all the misery and mayhem and load up with something to make me feel better. The BBC did a good job without milking the plot and I came away refreshed. What can be wrong with that? All we have to do now is get out of this ridiculous EU and have some money left over to give to the people in need. Mr Cameron - can we have our country back please?

They supported it Probably because it was a UK event. People in other parts of the world did not have to watch it if they did not want to. However, market research by the various television companies must have shown that the biggest audience and therefore advertising would be in showing the the wedding

just a thought:D

I don't support it in any way and I'm from Scotland originally, now the six counties, both considered part of the UK.

It's been rammed down my throat for weeks now and I've found sanctuary today in 6 Music, Trainz, going to the supermarket, killing the undead, washing the car and going to visit my niece for her birthday. Unfortunately, I was unable to catch up on any news as the only thing that happened in the world today was the RFW according to the BBC news both nation and regional.

I tried watching the RFW for 5 minutes but the absolutely ridiculous commentary that poses as so-called journalism, was too cringeworthy to bear. The only thing I didn't find out was what colour Billy's Y's were and where he bought them.

One political party here has stooped to new depths in saying Burger King are discriminating against the unionist populace in threatening to withdraw the '4 free onion rings' being offered in honour of the RFW. Election next week and he thinks anyone with more than 5 brain cells care?

I apolgise for my ranting but there's only so much one can take.

A royal thread was locked last week. I see the same happening here.

Can we get back out of the fairytale world??
There's a Nuclear Crisis in Japan
A rebellion in Libya and now Syria
A Twister killing nearly 300 in Central America
Tsunami warnings in the pacific

While, when watching a 30 minute news broadcast, 28 minutes of it is asking how long will the bridal Train be??

Jamie

First of all, it's the midwest that the twister was in. Central America is like the area between North and South America. And those tsunami warnings were for surges up to 6 feet, the highest actually being around 4 or 5 in Hawaii. Caused little damage, nothing that can't be repaired.

Secondly, events like these are uplifting. During the Great Depression and both World Wars, optimistic movies and little events helped people forget the troubles of the time and be happy for a while. We all need to feel a little less troubled.
I agree that we do need to focus on what's really happening in the world, but that wedding was a huge event. It's not like it was planned to happen at that time. Why shouldn't we dive into our fairytale world's for a bit? It's not like it's going to be newsworthy a month from now anyway.

An english royal family descended on one side from germans and on the other side from greeks.

The english may be stupid enough to see them as having any relevance to their lives.

They have no relevance to mine or a good proportion of the population of Wales.

IKB.

There speaks an embittered welshman. Though perhaps you should get your facts straight before clumsily attempting to insult a nation.

Afterall people could get the impression that all welsh people were like you!

Hooray. I've forgotten about my mortgage arrears and the credit cards. Thank the stars for the RFW.

@stovepipe, As for the remarks about IKB being an embittered Welshman, I think you greatly underestimate anti-English sentiment. Granted this is not directed at the people of England (certainly in my case as every place with the exception of London, has been filled with the most friendly people) but towards the crown and the state, past and present.

Perhaps you'd be surprised to find out about the disgraceful human rights infringements perpetrated by the state, within the British Isles, as recently as the 90's.

Yes, perhaps it is time to lock the thread.
