Confusing Locomotive Content

Hi everyone!

I recently downloaded a steam locomotive and tender for TRS2006. The content was originally built to work with TRS2004. I made some changes to the config file in Content Manager Plus because the original engine noises (enginesound, hornsound, ect.) were awful, no offense to the creators! The engine has no cab. To get into the "cab view" you have to center the view on the tender and use the cab view. It's not even a real cab view either, it's just a view from the fireman's side as if you were looking out the window.I want to replace this view with the internal view from the QR PB15. My previous attempts at this have failed. The engine won't move in cab mode.It also seems to be set to have Diesel locomotive controls... what?

Here's where I got the engine at. It's the 4-4-0 Old Timer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Good luck

Edit:

Ignore the text below. While it's indicated that you do have TS2010 I see that you refer specifically to TRS2006.

The ranting below are the sounds of an idiot signifying nothing for a TRS2006 user.

Welcome to the frustrating part of the World of Trainz.

To get any steam locomotive successfully working in TS2010 it needs:
  • A TS2010 compatible cab.
  • An enginespec that works well in TS2010.
  • Sounds that are designed to work in TS2010.
  • A direct-drive tag in the drive bogey and no direct-drive tags elsewhere.
If you want an example, try the 0-6-0 UP switcher I uploaded a couple of weeks ago. If you delve into the innards of it it might provide some guidance.

If there is no cab attachment point, which I think might be the case in the locomotive that 's causing you grief, an attachment point cab be added using one of the PEVSoft (Google it) tools. But doing this does require a little bit of skill.

Good luck.

With the permission of the original authors I have mounted other steam locomotives modified to work in TS2010 on RapidShare. Tell me if you would like the links.

Yes I do have TS2010, but my computer is prety old and TS2010's new graphics slow it down too much. :'(

I think I need to move and copy some files around to get this loco to work. It needs to render the controls for the cab view from files that should be found in the locomotive's content. All I did first was use notepad to tell Trainz to use the QR PB15's interior, but I didn't put the parts of the cab in with the 4-4-0's content. I think this is the problem, but with my luck I might be wrong.

Thanks for the reply!

:Y:Peace!

That's a *really* old locomotive - I believe it was created before Trainz fully supported steam engines (which is why it has Diesel controls). To get it working as a steam locomotive is likely to be quite a task....
If you are looking for a narrow-gauge 4-4-0, try SubPar productions in the narrow gauge downloads section ( http://www.steammachine.com/bdaneal/ngdl.htm )

Well thanks anyways. I guess I'll settle with what I've got... :(

On the other hand, I guess I can always download other engines.
I'll get in touch with the Trainzone.co site owner and see if he can help me to upload a slightly updated version with better sound. If it helps anyone, I can Email you the pics of the script errors I got when I tried to change cabs.
