config.chump files

I'm trying to install some 36 in gauge climax engines but run into the above file when I try to edit the config file.

what is a chump file and how do I edit it.

I did a search on comfig.chump and got 500 threads but the ones I look at only had config in them

Thanks for any help you can give me.

You edit the asset in explorer ... which opens up the config file in MS Notepad.

You edit lines, and save ... then commit the asset.

Always make a clone ... and experiment on the clone, rather than the original asset ... to make sure that it works ... to be sure that you don't mess up the original beyond repair.

If the clone works ... you can safely modify the original asset ... and delete the clone.

.chump files, or at least the ones that I have looked at, are compressed text files, sometimes (if not always) used for caching. The program ArchiveIndex by PEV, included with Asset-X, might be able to open it. ;)

Regards.

The Conten Manager converts the config.txt file to the .chump format (all numerical data is in binary format) when you commit it. Normally when you open a kuid for Edit in Explorer the config.chump file is converted back into config.txt format and placed into the edit folder. If you have one that didn't convert properly, revert it and try to reopen it again in Edit in Explorer. If that doesn't work then try Edit in Content Creator Plus but that will updated the file to 2012 specs which may cause other problems if it's an older asset. If you post the kuid number or source of where you got it, we'll try it.

The chump file is an internal file that you should NEVER attempt to edit. If you corrupt it you will have to rebuild the asset.

My ArchiveIndex utility is mainly for looking at archives, and cdp's. The fact that it can open chump files is "accidental".. they are the same basic format as cdp's and archives.

You should be using Content Manager to open any assets for edits.. Or TrainzObjects if you have TRS2004.. Neither of these show you the chump file. In the normal scheme of things you should never see the config.chump file.

I'm at work this morning so I'll have to wait until tonight to look at the files again. I know they were for the coal fed black Climax 36 in gauge engine and the black climax engine on the download station.

I will redownload them tonight and try again. And see if that fixes the problem

If I can get to the config.txt file I think I can get them running. I got 2 other climax engines running with same type of errors and just wanted some other climax engines to go with them.

thanks for the ideas and I'll let you know tonight how it turns out.

Thanks for the help guys.

Once you told me the chump file was not suppose to be there. I reinstalled the 2 items and I got a good config.txt file which I was able to edit and fix the engines.

Again thanks for the help.

If you are using my Climax models, all the black ones on Trainzone have just been fully reworked and have no errors in TS12. Ignore the warnings, they do no affect the running. They will also update the DLS versions.
