Computer Crashed On Me

Went to court so I can file some paperwork in a case that’s being fought by and for me only seeing that my computer crashed and wiped EVERYTHING. Might get lucky and restore the last backup but there’s no guarantee in that. Everything I had is gone. In the event it’s not recoverable, I’ll be leaving Trainz and everything related to content creation because that’s too much work for me to start all over again.

My SSHD failed. Even though all my stuff is on the SSD it shows nothing. That means there’s a chance I can extract all the files but right it’s not recoverable in its current state. Basically my computer is fried.

Not sure what OS you are on but if it's a Mac and drive can be seen.. Go to Disk Utility, find the drive, right click and Run First AID

There are several drive recovery services out there. Good ones will give you an estimate and not charge if they can't recover anything. It's a last resort and depends on what else is on that drive that is important. Good luck.

Backup means on a different physical drive. No point in having the original and backup on the same disk if that disk goes belly up.

Did you encrypt it with Bitlocker, or know if that happened?

No; I know someone who’s a computer software engineer looking into it.
Does the computer software engineer have software to mount the drive to an external USB cradle or connection? I have a feeling the problem might be the solid-state portion took a dive and that is preventing ability to see the files. Maybe they have something to read the hard disk and skip the solid-state function.

We are past that point. My computer suffered a hard crash. The method you are talking about only works with soft crashes.

Will you be keeping a backup off of the computer from this point forward? I would highly recommend that to everyone with important files and folders. Disaster recovery is something I deal with a lot at work.

it also works with Hard Crashes as well.. I would listen to pdkoester, he knows what he is talking about! lots of Knowledge can be learned from PDK!
I know how it is to want to solve it without someone else trying to tell you how to do it. He'll figure it out one way or another.

That’s gonna be one the first thing I do. Buy an external storage drive.

That is a very good idea. If you have a fast internet connection, you might consider online storage, like OneDrive or Google Drive, too. Just a suggestion. I use OneDrive, since I don't have a lot to store. That keeps it available from other systems and devices. That also means it is always backed up in a datacenter.
