Complete Backup and transfer to new PC

Hi,
I have a new Windows 7 Professional based PC and my Trainz installations are on an older Windows XP SP3 based PC.

Is there a "one size fits all" method of installing the various Trainz software packages I have then transferring ALL the data over to the new PC in one go ?

I'd like to uninstall/remove all Trainz from my older PC once all data transferred, without losing anything or having to jump through multiple fiddley hoops to achieve this.

There doesn't seem to be a sticky on this and I can only find a few references to backups and none of them describe a complete solution to move everything from one PC to another.

TIA.

I backup the 'User Data' folder once a week, as a master backup. I have already attempted and verified that a re-install and copy of this folder works fine. (I have TRS2010). I just re-install the game, delete the default 'User Data' folder, and then drag over my backup copy of that folder, and all is restored...

I just back up the entire installation, install Trainz on the new machine, then copy the old installation over the new one. Actually, I don't think you even have to do that - you could just recreate a few registry keys to get CMP to be able to import - but I prefer to use the aforementioned method so everything in the registry is done properly.

That's basically what I do, saves on having to patch it all again as well.

Plus a copy install on another drive for emergencies, incidentally the only registry entries that are not created if you run a copied but not installed version, are for the uninstall and the Trainz protocol which is probably why people get that error when using firefox. The rest all appear as soon as you launch the program.

A made this afternoon a complete copy to my wife's computer and everything is working fine.
Very happy with that possibllity :D

Seeing as it's a new PC you could partition the drives and install trainz in its own partition.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I'll do a spot of installing and copying over this evening.

Any problems or pointers I find I will post back here, and if I don't post, it will all have worked as you advised.

Cheers.

Don't forget that with Win7 it is advisable to install patch and run Trainz as Administrator, that's in addition to running from an admin account which MS have limited in Win7, also it's better to not put it in program Files but its own folder.

Also check that you have the latest graphics drivers from the manufacturer, the initial MS supplied ones don't seem to have openGL and you may need to add DirectX9c as 10 and 11 are not fully DX9 compatible.
