W7 and XP

I use both these OPS and much prefer XP. My main PC is XP but my laptop is W7. There isn't even a search option I can find in Explore in W7 - what twit took that out..!!
I dislikde W7 so much I am thinking of installing XP on it instead.

My main PC has two drive and I have Trainz versions on bot, 2004 on C:/ and 2006, TC3, TC 1 & 2 and 2010 on E:/. They all run perfectly. But note; I run as XP only, not a dual boot option.

The search option is to the right of the address bar at the top of the screen.....

Agreed 1000%.

Everyone said that Vista was the worst one of all at one time, but I have to say that; I think it has matured into being the best of both world's, XP was really good but you are limited to 3.4 Gig of RAM, and W7 is just a mess, and I don't have a touch screen, so it's pretty pointless me buying it just to have the annoyance of trying to find where they have hidden and renamed everything.

I think I might have to agree with you and Angelah about Windows 7. Its a pain trying to find where things are now stored, but I've just tried loading some of my old routes onto the W7 drive only to find that if you try to save changes, it won't let you overwrite a route because in W7 all files default to read-only and you can't change it. (You can but it reverts straight back)

For win 7 and the read only problem. I have win 7 and what I have found thru my reseach and trial and error, is that you have 2 options and both seem to work well most the time.

1. run Trainz as admin as well as any copy paste jobs.

2. Install trainz outside the Program Files or Program Flies (x86) folders.

I have done the second option on most games I use and have nad no problems running, patching, or moding. This has worked with Trainz 12, Trainz 10EE, Fallout NV, and Farming Simulator 2011.

I agree with the last post, WIN 7 works well and in many respects is better than XP. WIN 7 does have a search function, click 'Start' and enter your search term just above it. It works immdiately, no need to press anything.
