Colorado Joint Line

I've really been wanting to drive some coal trains on the joint line, especially since it goes right by my house.

Any ideas?

Hi Alex,

Have you thought of building the line if no one else made it?

It's not that difficult, and it would be a great learning project too because you'll learn:

1) The history as you investigate the trackside.
2) How to read maps such as topographic maps and engineering site surveys
3) To use the National Map server on the USGS website to download DEM files and images
4) How to use programs such as TransDEM if you want to use that to convert the downloads into terrain
5) How to use Surveyor
6) How to reskin if you want
7) A ton of new stuff and then some to make your next routes even better.

Great place to watch coal trains all day, however, I am not aware of this being in Trainz, for this matter, I am not aware of any completed section of the Powder River Basin System in trainz...

However as mentioned before,
A: You can gather up info for the terrain via the USGS topo maps
B: Get TransDEM or MicroDEM
C: Lay out some track (I figure most of this is either 2-3 track mains)
D: Get to enjoy learning about history of this route and the rest of the Powder River Basin System..
E: Kick back, relax, Run Coal trains... Take a few pictures, post them in the USA Screenshots....
F: Go build other routes with this new knowledge!
G: And as always Have fun!

Thanks guys, it's just that i don't really know how to copy a topo map into surveyor, so I can get accurate track placement.

Actually, now that I think of it, would somebody with TransDEM be nice enough to make me a DEM of the route?

-It would be a good line to do since I am here in Denver to, but I think after I complete my Cajon Sub, I'm retiring from route building. I started the Brush Sub a while back but it just isn't priority right now.

Alex,

If you get TransDEM, I'll show you the quick way to make your DEM files and put your route together. It's not as difficult as you think. :)

Hey man sounds like a great idea. Once i fix my trainz, I'm thinking of doing something like this because I live in pennsylvania, on the north west outskirts of philadelphia. The main line runs east-west less than a mile from my apartment, and there are plenty of abandoned rail lines around here.

Speaking of which Chris i just got the PRB into Trainz

Here is the car repair shed at Bill.

And the Black Thunder Loadout at Reno Junction i think it is.
Just another project to join the other's in the cupboard gathering dust but man there's just way too many Route's i want to see made for this game..lol.
Cheers Mick.:)

LMAO!! I've got a wild ADHD streak that keeps me working on a bazillion different things at once, and nothing ever really gets finished!! Good start, there Mick.... and now I see what the car repair shed was for!

I've noticed that seems to be a trait for owning Trainz. :)

You wouldn't believe how many routes I've started, restarted, killed off, and deleted.

I never heard of the Colorado Joint Line, but seeing the title and knowing what Colorado recently legalized I just had to look.
