Collision detection in Trainz 2010

Hi,

I have trainz 2010, generally is a great simulator, the one thing that lets it down in my opinion is collision detection.

For example if a train is derailed and hit by another train the trains just pass straight through each other, same when it comes to trains hitting a building (or such like), it just passes straight through it.

My question is - is collision detection any different in TS V12 ? (which would give me a good reason to upgrade).

Thanks

No - there is no collision detection in TS12. The lack of collision detection was not anywhere in my mind when I upgraded from 2010 to TS12 - nor was the built-in multi-player capability.

I upgraded because of the reports (by users in this forum) that it was more stable, had smoother graphics (better frame rates) and did not have "compatibility mode". I can confirm all these claims were correct. I am not interested in colliding trains, in multi-play nor in downgrading my graphics display and CPU performance to maintain compatibility with earlier versions.

I have not regretted the (vast) expenditure required for the upgrade.

No it isn't however there are in my opinion considerable other benefits in upgrading despite what the usual critics say about every new version, however 2010 is still a good sim.

I suspect adding collision detection to everything might put an excessive load on the game engine.

Thanks pware for the reply,

Shame really, you / several may have heard this story before but I have a 4 year old that is hooked on trains and trainz. I've tried all the well known simulators, the good thing about trainz is the downloadable content and Thomas engines, if only trainz had decent collision detection it would be awesome. I'm no train enthusiast but I enjoy playing trainz, creating train yards and so on, I know many players want to drive a train in the correct way but there has to be many like myself and my son who just want to 'play a game'.

Railworks has great collision detection / realistic effects if you hit trains / trucks too fast, realistic effects if you go too fast and so on, the downside seems to be lack of content and of course no Thomas engines.

Not sure if anyone can add anything to this / recommend something that fits the gap ?
