Coal Unloading Question

Back to the MIN, I'm having a new problem. Any new MIN that I add to my route (I'm doing some experimenting) will no longer see any of my rolling stock (ie the BR MCO Grey coal wagons and the Jinty). So I can't set up the Products tab. Any ideas why this could be? The old stuff is still working OK.

Also, AussieNightCrawler said "Try to use the same throughout the setup, you have used Units and Tonnes, change the Tonnes to Units or visa-versa (change Units to Tonnes). Only use 1 form of measurement, Tonnes or Units or Liters and not a combination of them."

That doesn't seem to be possible, the Processes and Products tabs only have one option, tonnes, other tabs will only allow units.
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

I just ran an experiment in both TC and TRS2006, I quickly created a new layout, placed an M.I.N and connected some track to it, placed 4 BR MCO wagons so the M.I.N will detect them.

I opened the properties of the M.I.N and setup the Queues tab with Coal and set the Size to 80000, went to the Products tab and was able to change Tonnes to Litres to Items (by clicking on Tonnes), so I left it at Items, also set the wagon. Went back to the Queues tab and seen that it had changed to Items also, went to the Tracks tab and set it to Unload from vehicle and left queue1. Finally went to the Processes tab, it was also set to Items, so set it to consume 10000 Items every 30 seconds.

As for the first problem, M.I.N not detecting rolling stock (wagons), I have not come across this myself and I have a lot of M.I.N's around my own layout.

But then, are you using the same wagon for every M.I.N you place?

You can set the M.I.N for different wagons but it will still unload/load any wagon that is carrying a load (or able to carry) of what product it is setup for. So for example, you can set one M.I.N for TRS Coal Wagon 1, but you will notice that if you have say 10 wagons in the consist all wagons will unload (which is the problem that you come across originally, the M.I.N unloading all wagons that you never wanted to happen). So maybe you have too many M.I.N's setup for the same wagon, try placing some new wagons and see if the M.I.N will detect them, there could be a limit that I have not come across yet.

I have an M.I.N on my layout that is consuming General Goods, the consist (train) that is delivering these is made up of 5 different wagons, the M.I.N is only setup for 1 of those wagons but it still unloads all wagons in the consist, because the wagons are industry compatible and carrying the product the M.I.N is consuming.

Hope that made some sense... :)

Right, this is a new problem, I have made several layouts, and added and removed MINs from my main layout, and it's not happened before. Maybe it's just another TRS wierdness.

I'll restate the problem as we have drifted so far away from it. All I have is one coal train, a Jinty with five BR MCO Grey's, that picks up 97000 units of coal from a producing MIN , and then chugs its way round to five different consuming MINs, unloading just one coal wagon at each one.

It works perfectly the first time round. It just won't repeat, next time round the wagons don't unload. I assume that that is because the consuming MINs are full and won't accept more coal. They are set to only consume 19400 units, so that only one wagon is unloaded at each MIN. How can I get them to be ready to accept another 19400 units the next time the train visits? It takes half an hour before it visits the same MIN again.

Aussie, I'll try your method to match up the units, tonnes, etc.

BTW, thanks for everyone's help and interest.
Mick Berg.

:mop: Oh, it's a drool mop! I thought it was a constipated penguin!

Well, I managed to match up the units (it was explained in the instructions, my bad) and solve the other problem (wrong kind of coal being used) but now it's gone crazy, and in my test route a MIN with a size of 19400 units unloads two wagons each with a capacity of 19400 units. In my original route, with identical settings, it only unloads one wagon. Only difference between the two is everything is in units on the test route, and some things are in tonnes in the original route.
The original works well enough as it is. I'm going to move on to other things for a while! Feel free to discuss dump trucks as much as you like.

Thanks,
Mick Berg.

There seems to be a math problem with the MIN. Maybe it's in the conversion from tonnes to liters to units or what ever.....
While my wife watches the Superbowl, seems I can't stop fiddling with this MIN business! I think Lynxfan is correct and there is a math problem. If I set everything to units, the coal wagon's capacity is halved, ie a MIN set to accept 19400 units empties two coal wagons of 19400 units capacity. When things are in their default state, a mixture of units and tonnes, eveything is OK. The problem can only be corrected by deleting the MIN, replacing it and re-entering the settings using tonnes and units.

I have over the last 2 - 3 days tried to recreate this problem in TC and have had no luck. But I have found what might be causing the problem in unloading 2 wagons is that do you know where in the 30 second duration the M.I.N is upto when you unload?

Probably not, so what I am thinking is that as you pull up to the M.I.N and unload, the M.I.N is actually very near its 'cycle' duration, so it unloads 1 wagon, then completes its 'cycle' so its empty again and unloads another wagon as it needs it. Now because it has just done its 'cycle' it doesn't consume anything so no more wagons are unloaded.

I set all the M.I.N's I tried to Items and had no problems.
