Will Trainz 2009 have better clickety-clack sounds?

Hi,
the 'click clack' track sounds were badly broken in TRS06 and have been fixed in TC1. Further tweaks have been made to these sounds and they now play fine in TS09.
Also, the volume has been slightly reduced so they're not as intrusive as before. This allows for other rail related sounds such as the rail rumble, etc to be better heard.

Can this sound be turned off, for ships aircraft etc?

sure,
this has been achievable since TC1.
Add the tag disable-extra-track-sounds 1 to the ship/aircrafts config file.
I believe you can also use "silent or invisible" track to achieve the same result.
