Changing Train Horns For Reskins - Using Built In Train Horns

Will I be able to use some Built In Train Horns for my Reskins and then be able to upload them to DLS? Or is that considered technically as Payware and thus not doable? I heard you can't reskin or clone Payware. I prefer the Air Chime Horns that were used on the CP and CN Trains in the 80's and 90's. Any suggestions on some good loco horns I can download from DLS that I can clone perhaps? Thanks.

If it's built in assets you need to check with N3V on that one if you're looking at any uploads of said assets (with or without cloning) as they would technically be payware.

Do not re-skin payware (except to run it on your own PC), with intentions of re-distribution, or uploading it to the DLS, or to 3rd party sites.

Just because I reskined a DD40X into PRR Brunwick Green, with PRR Keystones, and weathered it, does not make it not total Carp ... as almost no one in the entire Community would want to download them, nor run them

Horn sounds that are built in and have a kuid number can be used, there is no mesh and you do not need to upload.

Ok, I was just wondering because I was reskinning some locomotives but didn't like the horn sounds. So I wanted to replace them with other Train Horns - some of which are already built in Trainz12 and they do have their own Kuid numbers. But I won't use them if I can't upload a reskinned locomotive that has a horn I used that is built in Trainz12. Am I right on that?

A horn is associated with a loco through a reference in the config file. The horn is not uploaded when the loco is uploaded, so you do not need to have upload rights to the horn. However, you should ensure that the horn is accessible to people who will download your loco, because they will need to download the horn separately if they don't already have it, so a built-in asset is a good choice.

You only have to be concerned about having uploading rights for the loco you are reskinning - that loco must include permission to upload and re-distribute, either in the config file, in a separate file included with the asset, in a forum posting by the original creator, or in some other message that you have from the original creator.

Yup, I got permission from the owner of the locos for reskinning. I just need to change the horn kuids in the config file.
