Changing a kuid ?!?

Quick bit of help needed. Basically I've downloaded some track of the DLS and for my own purposes have needed to clone it and modify it. However, in doing this, content manager has auto signed it a kuid... I was wondering if was possibly to change it and how I would go about doing it ?!? Thanks in advance.

CM has given it a kuid number assigned to you (note the first 6 numbers). Re name the track to something you'll remember.

Depending on your reason "why", it may be inadvisable to change the KUID, such-as, if you intend to re-assign the original "other persons" KUID to avoid having to change the dependency in an otherwise finished route (using the "change asset" feature in surveyor makes this pointless anyway).

Regardless, you can change the KUID to anything you like, that isn't already used by another asset, by:
1. Open for Edit in Explorer
2. navigate back one folder, so you are in the "editing" folder, not the assets folder.
3. "Copy" the entire asset folder (the reason for being in the "editing" folder, rather than the assets root folder)
4. Navigate to another location; Desktop, a "working" folder, etc. and "paste" the folder you just copied, in to it.
5. Close the Explorer window, and go back to CMP.
6. "Revert" the asset you had "open for edit", and minimise CMP when complete.
7. Back to your copied version, in your "working" folder, or where-ever.
8. Navigate to the Config file, open with Notepad, change the KUID (advisably, only the main portion, as your suffix should remain, but you can also add the KUID2 and :1 version numbers if you like) to one of your choice, "save", close.
--my KUID as an example: <kuid:655957:123456> to <kuid2:655957:123456:1>
9. Back to CMP, in the "file" menu, select "Import Content", and navigate to the folder where your copied version is...select and import.
10. Once it is committed, verify it is as it should be, then you can safely delete to "cloned" version with the unwanted KUID.
