Thanks for your response, Dan. I actually had tried clicking ? To edit properties, and set the name in properties to "EUGENE", but that did not work. I had also tried to edit Config.txt and changed Name: from "name" to "EUGENE" but that didn't seen to work either. However, when I went back and tried putting a sign in a blank area for testing, I saw the back side of the sign was the side that actually said EUGENE!
As as you know, the only way to select a small object is from a directly overhead view. I was putting the sign on the end of a station. The roof had an overhang, so from the top view I could not see or select the top of the sign to select it to either move or rotate it. So, I clicked the center on the station and temporarily rotated it. Now I could see the top edge of the sign to select it and rotate it, which brought EUGENE into view. While I had the station rotated, I placed another sign for the other end, I didn't have to rotate it, so I lined it up using a ruler placed to the end of the existing sign, and spaced it a little further away than I thought necessary. I rotated the station back into place and moved the sign as close as I could to correct position at the end of the overhang. I rotated the station so I could grab the edge of the sign and moved it a little closer by triall and error until I got it as close as possible. At one time I had the yellow letters showing on the wall, while the red background of the sign was in the wall and not showing! Tweaked it out just a little. The signs are not exactly centered on the walls, but they are close enough that I won't mess with them!
Now my wish list for surveyor for features that are not there, or I cannot find. These are all features of graphics programs such as Inkscape.
1. A status/selected line or window to show you the name of the presently selected object. This way you could see if in fact the item you clicked was the sign or the station, rather than by moving or rotating and using undo if you had the wrong thing selected.
2. A way to select an item close to your mouse click without actually clicking on it. Example: you are in Object mode and you select Rotate or Move operations. If you click an Object a window could open showing and highlighting the name of the Object "Metztown Station". The window would also list any other Objects in close proximity to the selected item, in this case "PRR Station Sign". If you had clicked close to but not on either Object both would be in the list, but neither highlighted. You could chose the item to select by clicking on it in the list.
3. A way (such as alt plus a curser key) to make small adjustments to the position left right up down or rotation +- or height up down of the selected object without using the mouse; or by direct edit of digital position values. This way you could view from the best angle to see the results while you made fine adjustments of positioning.
4. A way to "group" two or more objects so that you could rotate or move them as a group without changing the relative positions of them. You could of course "ungroup" them at will to adjust the relative positions.
Attention developers, hint, hint!
