Change Ends for AI drivers in a DMU or EMU

Hi,
Normally I create sessions for steam era routes but I was wanting to use an old DMU to run to a timetable from a terminus through some stations to another terminus and then return. I am having problems in simply moving the AI from one end of the DMU to the other when I reach the terminus. Is there a command I can use that will do this for me? I can't seem to find one. I am using TANE SP1. Thanks for any suggestions.

[h=2]Change Ends for AI drivers in a DMU or EMU[/h]Hi Steve,
I use either Change Direction Command OR Change Train Direction when operating the GWR Autotrain.
Both are available in Quick drive Driver Commands.
When reversing the driver moves to the carriage window as a driver but the AI control remains with the original designated consist.
Hope this helps.
Cheers helian 43 aka Ian

When a real RR loco comes into a terminal, the driver removes the handles, locks the control stand, walks hundreds of feet to the operations office, has a cup of cawfee, receives his train orders, walks and returns to the train, and goes to the opposite end cab, sets up the cab control stand, communicates with the dispatcher ... Why should Trainz be any different from the real world ? There is no AI in the real world

Just click "Get Off Train", and click on the opposite cab and "Move To Train"

You can also try <kuid2:117667:83:3> Run Around Ex, Steve. To change ends decouple the loco first.

If there is only one loco then the driver moves to the other cab. If there are two or more then the driver will move to the outermost loco cab at the other end of the group.

Of course, if you remain coupled to the train then the loco runs around the carriages.

Cheers - Trev

Yes, this works, but for continuity sake with the driver's schedule you don't want to have to manually intervene.

Behavior seems to vary with different assets. When I next fire up Trainz I will report which DMU's move the driver properly and which one's don't.

Thank you all for your replies and helpful suggestions. I have tested the route both ways and the AI driver seems to be quite content to drive looking out the back window. How he/she sees the signals I don't know. I'm just glad I am not a passenger. :) As John says I do not want to intervene in the AI running of the train. The change direction command works and I must have been having a senior moment to forget about it.

@cascaderail
In the UK at the time of the route I am modelling the only communication with the signalman was by looking at the semaphore signals and his route knowledge of knowing where the signal was with the nearest telephone or bell push. BTW, I see in some posts of yours that you bemoan poor sentence construction and incorrect spelling. I hope you don't me pointing out, since you work at the Vostok Antarctic Base you must obviously be mainly speaking in Russian on a daily basis with your colleagues so I forgive your poor spelling but in English English and American English the correct spelling of the hot drink is COFFEE. ;) A quick google search shows that CAWFEE is a Brisbane coffee chain...

Hi,
Whenever I place EMU's into a route, I always make sure that there is a control cab at each end of the consist. In that way, it allows the AI driver to automatically shift ends whenever I use the 'Change Direction' command. I've never had any problems with the driver at the wrong end.

Cheers,
Roy

I do the same but for another reason. Over here, like many places around the world, there are diesels on one end and a control cab on the end of the train. This works perfectly in real life, however, the AI don't like to drive long distances backwards and will go through great lengths to turn themselves around to put the locomotive forward. This was never a problem until TS2010 and I reported this as a bug way back then and more recently due to not being fixed, ever. The solution, well workaround complete with fuzzy string and chewing gum thrown in, is to use a control cab which is actually a loco.

I think CC was joking with his spelling he always writes like that in a mocking fashion.

ECML-BR Class 105 DMU (a built-in consist) does not work properly in this respect. The driver stays at one end of the train no matter what. You have to physically reverse the train.

<kuid2:283805:117001:1> BR Class 117 DMS blue grey and <kuid2:283805:117002:2> BR Class 117 DMBS blue grey work properly. If they are going backwards the driver stays where he is. If the direction of the train changes, by being directed to a destination behind the train, the driver changes ends and the lights change as well.

At least that's what I'm seeing, so it seems that different assets behave differently.

The BR HST 125s have the same issue. One solution could be to first Change Direction, then issue a Move to Train.... command, to move the driver. I confess that my lazy self has just left the HST drivers sat at the rear in my sessions to date.
