I have a copy of TRS06 on a (Vista) laptop and tried to uninstall so I can replace it with TRS09 but can't. When I try to go into the uninstall it repeatedly takes me into install and wants the registration key boxes filled in.

mmm , why take trs06 off, you can run trso6 & trso9 on teh same computer

Ok heres what you do:

1.go to:

C:\Program Files\Auran

2. Delete The Trs 06 Folder

3. and remove all shortcuts (e.g: Desktop)

4.then remove the auran folder

the remaining mb will take up

0.66 mb on your computer ( that cant be removed)

THEN....
you can install trs 09

Hope it works :)

No sir - it won't work. Deleting the folder will NOT uninstall the program. It WILL however leave a trashed registry which could well make re-installing problematical...

Sorry RJ, I have no practical advice....

If you are certain you are logged in with the same account that was used to install it previously then perhaps to get it to uninstall try playing the game the pesky installer wants. Put your serial when asked, install as needed then try once more. It doesn't seem like it could make matters any worse.

Consider using some registry cleaner if you do delete the folder.
Consider using some "Installation Tracker" which could be used to help remove any traces of trs2006. You would have to install the Tracker, Install 2006 with the Tracker turned on/active, then use the Tracker to help remove trs2006

Good luck with your venture,
Lenny

Was a beta tester for 2006 -

agree with orginal poster on this thread -- the Uninstall.exe has dissappeared from the 2006 folder -- when we were beta testing not at all uncommon to deleate and rebuild on a daily basis -- cannot do it now - was talking with benny100 -- he suggested perhaps SP3 for windows ate it??? Could be - but it has dissappeared from the fold!!! -- any Auran weenies out that that want to jump in on this -- where or where did my little uninstall go - with it tail cut short!!!

you could try this, in theory it should work but just in case create a restore point first.
i presume with being a laptop you only have one drive.
open the drive, go through it and delete all the folders[bin/docs/cache/editing/local/settings/libraries/scripts/Tmp/video/world] ( there are more) which belongs to trainz 2006. remember you will lose all routes ,saves, downloaded content etc.
would an external drive not be another option, put 2009 on that then maybe you could copy some of your content to it.

Uninstall Problem

I have never had a problem uninstalling a trainz program. I've always went to add/remove programs in windows os and just deleated trainz. Then I would go into start menu then search menu and type in TRS06 and deleate any files/folders listed. Then I would type in Auran and deleate any files/folders listed. Then I would go back to start menu find where I put the Auran folder either c/drive or my documents and deleate the Auran folder if it's still there. You should have a clean 06 uninstall. Alco_P-A

Hi Gandy-dancer here again--
it is not even listed anymore in add/remover programs in control panel - the unistall.exe is also gone - that used to be there -- thought I was going nuts - so did a rough delete (ie dump the entire 06 folder) then did a re-install, sp1 addition - then opened it up - guess what - NO UNINSTALL.exe - no listing in add/remove folder - Now I know both used to be there - do you suppose - and this is just a wild thought - SP3 for windows ate the uninstall.exe program???? - I am running windows XP Pro - never had this problem until of late.... I beta tested 06 and know for a fact while testing the entire folder was dumped many times (but this was pre- SP3 for windows??)

any input greatly appreciated!!

Hi every one,
For the people who are complaining that Uninstall.exe has disappeared try this;

In Windows Explorer on the menu select
Tools
Folder Options
View
Make sure 'Show hidden files and folders' is checked
Apply

I don't have TRS2006 installed so I can't check if Uninstall.exe is a hidden file, XP SP3 may have reset the hidden files option?

I have TRS06 running on Vista and can (and have) un-installed it by using 'Uninstall a program' in Control Panel?

You could try a third party uninstaller to see if that will take it out? A good one is CCleaner. Google it and you should find it as a free download, otherwise go to Computeractive.co.uk and search for it in the downloads section.

If all that fails delete your Auran folder from your hard drive and use the rigistry cleaner in CCleaner to remove the orphaned entries that will get left behind

I've been using REVO Uninstaller for a number of years now and it has saved my butt more than once. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,66703-order,4/description.html

There is 4 different uninstall modes and I would not advise using the fourth for Revo is a powerful program and really does its job well by using the third mode.

Revo comes in very handy when a program's uninstall feature is either not available or has been corrupted.

Anyway good luck,

Harold

Just out of interest, did you leave your antivirus program running during the (re)-install? If so, that may have caused part of the problem.

Looking in regedit, it appears the log files (and the uninstaller) are stored in a seperate folder altogether (Installshield Installation Information) which may be a hidden folder.

This is the command mine uses, it may need altering to be able to uninstall yours:

RunDll32 C:\PROGRA~2\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\09\01\Intel32\Ctor.dll,LaunchSetup "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{5ED9E38C-9A96-49D8-89B3-92E278003FCF}\setup.exe" -l0x9

(it's all one thing)

It may vary slightly if you are running Vista (if you are running a 32-bit version, remove the (x86) part and change progra~2 to progra~1)

If that does not work, try the Revo Uninstaller advice given above.
Shane

EDIT: It seems you may have already solved the problem - my apologies if this post is a bit late.
