Cannot install the game. Perhaps someone has had the same problem.

Today I bought Trainz Simulator for Mac from its manufacturer via digital download. After downloading the file, I attempted to install the file. It finished quickly, so I opened it up to find that the disk image can't be mounted because the .dmg file isn't recognized. I did some reading and found that my problem could have been caused by a faulty download. Understandable, since it was a suspiciously short download for such a big file. I tried again (the license entitles me to ten downloads), and this time the file took a good hour (just as it was scheduled to). I figured that this would surely fix the problem, but no. My computer still won't recognize the file. I googled again and took some steps involving repair and conversion using Disk Utility. That didn't work either.
Now I'm sitting here $40 out, and I have no idea how to get this game working. Does anyone have any ideas?
My computer meets or exceeds all given system requirements.

Just out of interest, how did you resolve it? It may help others who happen to get in the same mess.
