I think the best steam loco we have for the CNR is that 2-8-2. It's the one at USLW. I think it's been around for a few years. I'm sorry, I forget who did it, but I think he did a great job on the herald, CN "licence plate", and lettering. There is also a Northern at that site. It could use a little work on the herald etc. I have not really got into driving locos yet, so I don't know how well they perform. Although the Mikado is not the right class for me, I plan to use it for now. I don't believe the Northern was used on the route I built. There is also a 0-6-0 at the DLS.
I had 5 "CNR" locos built. 0-6-0, 0-8-0, 2-8-0, 2-8-2, and 4-6-2. I'm thinking I should have supplied better info to the builder. I still think that old Mikado is the best looking CNR loco I have. There are many US locos that would work as Canadian locos. I hope that some talented fellas will put Canadian skins on them someday. Boy, I wish I could learn how to do this, but I just can't get the hang of it. Even if I could, I lack any artistic talent.
Whitepass has done a couple of CP boxcars in the last couple of months and BN1970 put a CNR skin on one of them. They look real nice! A little birdie told me there are some "kick bum" Canadian steam era transition boxcars on the way!
I know us Canucks think our southern brothers have it all, but even they seem to be needing more steam era locos and rolling stock. I guess everyone everywhere wants more. I know I do! Not just those big honking monsters! Some "average sized" CNR steam locos and yard switchers are what I'd like to get my hands on! On the brighter side, Canucks have all that top quality steam era US rolling stock that we can use.
Cheers....Rick.....I'm happy when I find any steam era North American item. I'm in Heaven, if it's CNR!
