Can Trainz be installed on laptops (& others) with only USB ports, not disc drives?

Can Trainz (& if known MSTS) be installed on laptops (& other computers) that only have USB ports, and not disc drives?

Hi Red

One way is to get an external DVD drive.

I have an Imation DVD Burner that connects via a USB and it works great with my laptop.

For a disc version, yes. If you have a digital download version (for Trainz at least) it could be stored on the hard drive if it is large enough.

Sort of related to this: could you install Trainz to an external SSD with some sort of high speed connection (USB 3.0?) to the PC and would it work faster than if you installed on your conventional internal hard drive?

Depends on the bandwidth and transfer speed of the USB versus the internal connection, might come out about the same.
"For a disc version, yes." Not here, I installed 2009, 2010, and 12 from disks, no DRM requiring a disk in the DVD drive. You could also install on one computer and copy the entire folder to a different computer using a LAN cable, the other computer doesn't even need a DVD drive or internet connection.

According to sites that apparently know about these things USB3 or eSata is fine with 500MB/s SSD's USB2 apparently slows it down but it's supposedly still considerably faster than any hard drive.

No. It should run the Android version, but not any serious version like TS2010 or TS12. Totally different operating systems, not to mention performance capabilities.
