can trainz 12 work on windows 8 or any other trainz programs? thinking of buying new computer with windows 8

I have two co-workers that tried windows 8 on a non-touch screen PC, and both quickly installed windows 7. They hated using windows 8. Companies like Dell will sell you a windows 7 machine if you call them, we just got one in my office last week from Dell.

I got Win8 on my latest computer and only major difference is the "start" screen is the opening screen.

It is just like Win7. I find it runs faster. Also it will hibernate like XP and the OS isn't accessing the HD all the time.

Geez, My brother and I have used Win8 and found it to be just like Win7 but better.

The complaints in that article are really funny as in what are they complaining about. The transition from XP to Win7 is harder.

Have you used Win8 or only going on hearsay.

Harold

EDIT: All the versions I have work.

Used Windows 8 on one computer at work, which we finally removed it from because everyone that used it hated it, and all our employees are very computer savy since we are a tech company. It is great if you have a smart phone or a tablet, and not too bad if your PC has a touch screen, but is a real pain in the butt if you are used to XP or Windows 7, and just want your computer to work like a real computer. MS fired the chief designer a month after Windows 8 was released, and are now working on Windows Blue which will fix alot of the things that people are complaining about. Businesses refuse to buy Windows 8, which is a bit segment of Microsoft's market.

Have temporarily used 8 on a friends lappy, I would agree that it is responsive but my only beef with the OS is it's complicated touch screen layout and program features I necessarily wouldn't have a need for. Besides, most reviews state this platform was a shift primarily focused towards improving user experience on mobile devices as Robert2d6 points out.

Getting back on track; It leaves me clueless as I don't know how well it performs with trainz.

Cheers

I have used Win8 with all my versions of Trainz and it runs great just like with Win7 and XP.

Click on "Desktop" in the "Start" screen and it is just like Win7.

i kept going back and forth from my windows 7 to my windows 8, i finally just went back to windows 7 for good until microsoft gets things together. windows 8 just doesn't feel natural like windows 7 does. i know computers are always evolving, but microsoft trying to combine a phone design and a desktop together just won't work, thats just my opinion, i don't believe this windows 8.1 upgrade will fix the problem either unless the start screen is back like windows 7 and you can access porgrams just like windows 7, i am 35 years old and i adapt to change pretty well, but i just have't been able to grow on windows 8, maybe in the future i will.i have been in front of a screen since the windows 95 lauch, of course i was only about 14 at the time, but sometimes the old way is just better. in this case i believe its one of them cases.

Harold you more than likely have my computer and many other system icons on your desktop like windows 95 had to access things you need, i have never used search in any of the windows os's and i am not going to start now, it takes to many clicks in windows 8 to get to where you want to go, we will see if i am wrong. i simply don't want a tile screen , it's useless for a keyboard and mouse.

Once onto desktop, shortcuts can be added just like every other Windows. The ones in the start menu are already there.

I run TRS2006 and TC on Windows 8.

They work fine except a minor problem:

When I switch from Driver to the Metro screen, using the Windows key, then switch back to the Desktop and click on the Trainz icon to bring it back from the background process, I get a black screen. I can hear sound, but I have no picture. At this point there nothing I can do, but to kill the Trainz process using the Task Manager and start Trainz again.

Other than that I haven't experience any problems.

There are rumors that Microsoft plans to add a "boot to desktop" option to SP1. Perhaps they'll also provide the option for the legacy start menu?

i ran windows 8 with trainz, i had too many problems, try installing games for windows live for legacy games and see how far you get, flat out a smart phone os and a desktop os , should not be combined and noone is going to change my mind period.
yes i watch winbeta closely.

In Win8 if you put the system to "Sleep" the power can be shutoff and on starting up the computer will go back to the last window which would be the desktop.

Just like XP Hibernate, so there is really "no click" if you know what you are doing.
