Can anyone describe the difference?

I'm interested in purchasing TSR2006 but can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two? They both seem to be produced by Auran Games but why do they have the exact same name? Thanks!

I think the one on the left is the CD version ( the one I have, 5 discs and no SP1 option) - the other is the DVD version (dunno how many discs, but still no SP1 option).

I'm just curious because the first image is like $17 USD and the second image is $50 USD (DVD version). If there is no difference, I believe I have to purchase the less costly. I'm currently downloading the US service pack 1 (600+ MB). When you say there is no option, do you mean this will not work with either version? Also, with the version you have, do you need the CD in the tray to play or is it strait off the hard drive like 2004?

The version on the left is the US retail version, the one on the right is the Auran international version. Both are upgradeable to SP1, what b9k9kiwi means is neither can be bought with SP1 pre-installed as far as he knows (and as far as I know).

I believe a few people have had problems with the Merscom retail version having incorrect registration codes, nothing that can't be sorted out though. At less than half the price its's not exactly a tough decision :D

Thanks guys, thats exactly what I wanted to know. It's weird with DVD's being available for so long that the cost is that much more just to save me a few minutes switching CD to install the game. They aren't really trying to get people to buy the DVD version, now are they?

There is a reason for that... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Merscom are free to sell theirs for that price simply because they published in the US. The DVD version would prolly get a bit more.

Auran, on the other hand, sell the international version on both DVD and CD but they decide how much they go for out of their shop.

The DVD version has some extras that are not on the 5 CD version. There is a nice movie with lots of steam footage and the DVD comes in a nicer package with manual and a Keyboard shortcut sheet. Plus you may have to keep the CD disk one in the drive to play where the DVD you do not.

Basically if you buy direct from Auran they get more cash than if you buy the retail version which translates into more cash to do upgrades, run the forum, the DLS etc. Buy retail they get about 20% of the price you pay buy direct they get it all.

That is the "DVD Limited Edition" you are talking about, not the DVD version available now.

1 DVD (for the standard version), and the SP can be shipped for free along with it. That's how mine shipped (to canada) anyways.

Good thing to, because I tried to pre-download the service pack, and got a whopping 10k/sec from the download server, which is painful, considering SP1 was ~600mb

Also the current version of the DVD does not require the disc to be in the drive. I was quite pleased about this, as it's one less game that's killing drives on me (I tend to go through an optical drive every 6 months or so). The only other game I can think of that doesn't require the disc (or at least that was made in the last year or two) was Earth 2160.

Everywhere I asked in my hometown (Victoria, BC, Canada) they were unable to find a US distributor for any Trainz-related products, which I find incredibly strange as at least one retailer I visited was carrying the Ship Simulator which Auran publish.

C D version

I have the 5 C D version. It installed just fine. I also downloaded SP 1 with no problems installing. You don't need the disc in the drive to run Trainz in the U.S.:)

I'm over on the mainland and have seen it on the shelf at Future Shop.
