hi mates

when i started 2010EE last night, my surveyor looked like this.

yardafter.jpg

and before it looked like this

yardbefore.jpg

i have reset every setting in option in both surveyor and cmp, to no avail
i even dl the latest graphics drivers
still no go
i went from dirctX to open gl and back
still the same
it didnt matter wether i had the draw distance at 1000 meters or at 5000
it always looks like this

and yes, i restarted trainz every time in between
would anybody have any idea why this is happening?

thanks for you help
rton

Looking at the two screen shots, you appear to have added some extra trees or bushes? Suggest removing what you have added one item at a time, I'm guessing it's a bad asset problem more than anything actually wrong with Trainz itself.

hi
the trees are what other qr route makers are using.
they had no dramas
i checked everything and even merged the session into the route, shut down and went into the new route, not session
still the same
thanks
ron

They may well work for others, however it's not to say that one of them hasn't got corrupted in some way, often reinstalling an asset will solve the problem. Have you checked jetlog.txt for any warnings or errors over and above normal?

hi malc
yes, i checked it.
nothing extra or altered

its very strange
cmp
shows no errors on any of the content apart from some yellow
thanks
ron

hi
i again checked the graphics card, reset it to default
then i changed all the 2010EE settings to default
even with the distance at 5000
the below screen is what i get
thanks
ron

Ron,

Replace the trees. I have found that by replacing alpha-channel trees with the newer SpeedTreez relations, this problem goes away. The old alpha channel trees can cause this because the force the CPU to do the work. When this happens, the program throttles back on the load and cuts back on the displayed items.

hi john
i deleted the alpha-channel trees, as well as the creek spline and the trees spline that was surrounding said creek
reset everything yet again,
still no difference.
i went into the bvl, but it looks the same there

i think it must be something to do with my graphics card.

i will put up with it for the time being,
otherwise i will never get anything else done on it

thanks for the suggestions from everybody
cheers
ron

Hello Ron, First off I have to agree with Clam, sometimes a faulty asset or a high poly asset can effect draw distance in trainz, so be careful what you choose when you build any route, especially anything card board tree or spline wise.

However, I have found this in the past with a lot of my routes, and through a lot of fiddling around, I have usually found it to be either the track or the fence splines that effect the draw distance, looking at your screenshots, your track doesn't look like it is the cause of the problem, otherwise you would have had the draw distance problem in your first screenshot, so I would not touch the track.

However, the main difference between your two top screenshots is, the top one has perfect draw distance, but no telegraph pole splines, where-as the bottom screenshot has the telegraph pole splines, I think it is either the telegraph splines or the spline fencing that maybe causing you the problem, some telegraph splines and fencing in trainz are ok and don't effect anything, and yet others can make trainz lag or give false draw distance.

Hope the above helps

i see the difference, if that is in fact the game we are playing here!

looks like you added a bunch of splines in the form of power lines. these will certainly cause what you are seeing if they are outdated and inefficient. i am willing to bet that is your problem.

hi mates
it wasn't the power lines

it was 2 fences that i use for rail and road
ds fence was in at 63 kuid 342053:37183 and that was supposed to be for 2010
fence barbwire was in at 87 kuid 173173:20936

i used john tutorial and fixed them both
now they show at 6

what a difference
i have ny full screen back again
thanks for the help

Hurray, I was right for once, good to know you got the problem fixed misterchugg, I thought it might have been the fences, however, some powerlines can have this effect too.

Now don't bother the great airtime, as it will all go downhill from now on in...

hi mates
another problem

the ds fence kuid:342053:37183 now after being fixed, does not show up.
the spline points show, but nothing else.
this is the fence i was using for the train line as its border.
i wanted a fenceline that had leaning posts, just like the real thing had
any suggestions?
thanks
ron

If the asset is trainz-build 2.9 or higher, the usual fix for the draw distance issue does not work correctly, as it causes the asset to become faulty (there is a note on the tutorial link I provided further up the thread)

If this is the case, reduce the trainz-build to 2.8 using Content Manager. Most splines will still work correctly at this level.

Config is completely different for 2.9 upwards as has to be in stitched mesh format so to revert you would have to redo the config in the old style, this fence however is of the old type, make sure the build in the config is 2, may have been upped when you edited it. Have fixed it using bendy 1 here and is working but still with worst buffer problems.

The worst buffer count, on a blank board with just the fence corner to corner increases dramatically. 1 lines of fence is around 40, 4 lines shoves it up to 99 add another one and it's 123. Suggest in this case only use the fence sparingly and not in long runs. My 3d track never goes above 40ish and there's miles of it with no lod yet. Just checked the poly count of the fence in AssetX, Ouch!

Think you'd be better looking for an alternative fence Ron, it's a very well made fence but I think is not fixable due to the poly count.
