California Cars

Hi Guys,

After searching about these I am more confused,

Are the cars used in California, superliners, or are they specifically designed for Amtrak California?? The cars in question are these

Are these just re-painted superliners or are they different??

And are these available in Trainz??

Heres what I know-

Q-"Are they Repainted super liners?"

A- No, they look like Superliners, but the interior is way different.

Q-"Are they used in California?"

A- Yes, They are used on the Amtrak SUrfliner, and on the Amtrak Capitol Corridor(different paint scheme though).

Q-"Are they only for AMtrak California?"

A- I think they are, although there is one Surfliner cab car in the Chicago Union Station yard thats been there for quite some time.

Q-'Available for Trainz?"

A- I believe there is a MESH of those cars but it's only a mesh you can't get it into trainz. I forgot the site though.

they are called California Cars and were developed by Alstom using Amtrak's Specs to be based off the Superliners (which are in turn based off the ATSF Hi-Levels). Currently they are only used in California on the Amtrak California Service & the Surfliner, however there has been a few spotted attached to other trains; usually heading towards the Beech Grove major repair facility in Indiana.

Amtrak does have plans to get new bi-level equipment in the future. This new fleet will be used on Corridor trains (like the Michigan Service) instead of the currently used Horizons. These new cars will be again required to be based off the Superliner Design, although will probably end up looking more like the Cali Cars.

PS: if yo look around a bit there are a couple Superliners painted up in the Surfliner & AmCal paint schemes to be used as spares.

There are four by starfox (though the coach and lounge are actually in Superliner livery):
