Cabview lighting

sniper297

Coconut God
Some of the reskins I've uploaded I cloned the cabviews and added lighting effects, haven't heard any comments one way or the other. Wondering if there's any actual interest, or does everyone drive in DCC mode from 200 feet altitude? :eek: Anyway, current project, default SD40 cabview clone, currently the CDP for the two files is 12 megs.

Tricky part since there's no day/night switching AFAIK is to hit a happy medium with something that works both day and night.

Looks okay to me, anybody want? Comments, suggestions, flamewars, fawning adoration or grotesque insults all welcome here. :cool:

Oh Sniper you are one sneaky sun-of-a-gun.

Fellas, Sniper has figured out how to put a PON ALCO S4 on
all the railroads in TRAINZ.

For a teaser on the cab interior, download all of Snipers'
ALCO S4 series, (kuid:522774:1023) is the first one.
Then take a look at the interior, (kuid:522774:1004).

This isn't quite an SD interior, but its a sample of what the
SD interior might look like all dressed up.

Very nice work. The S4 skins are darned nice too.

Actually if you look there are three lighted cabviews, search for "sniper297" with the filter set for all versions. Download library is screwy, I'm making all this stuff for TS2010, but the filter sorts it according to the EARLIEST version it will work in. So you end up with an engine made for 2010 that says it's for 2004, and it uses a cabview which claims to be for the original Trainz. I dunno how anybody figures anything out with this system. Anyway, in addition to the generic SW cab there's also a generic high hood and low hood cabview originally based on Gen_SD. Those have all been skinned so you see the PO&N colors and logo looking out the back window, I was curious to see if anyone wanted a generic dark gray one. Apparently some do, so;

Directions for changing an engine to use this cabview are in the description, whether you use CCP or manually edit the config.txt file don't forget to change both the "Interior" line and the one in the KUID table.

Jim --

I've downloaded (several times) and tried to install (several times) that file into TS2010 (SP3).

I keep getting an error message:

Error: Unable to open CDP file 'C:\!net\lightsd40cab.cdp' for reading

Phil

Try turning your computer rightside up?

Hee-hee, seriously, confirmed gripe. I deleted it from mine, downloaded from the link, got the same message. Gimmee a couple, looks like the file is truncated, should be 11.6 megs, not 11.3.

Okay, try it now from the same link, apparently humyo got the hiccups or something and lost .3 megs of the file. That's another problem with not using ZIP files, no CRC checksum in these CDPs.

Bench checks four-oh, away we go!

Well, thanks for being a lab rat I mean beta tester! :hehe: Still need to find a GEVO / Dash 9 style cab I can do this to, I downloaded a couple Dash 9s and they had no cabviews at all. :eek: Lot of the outside websites have ES44s or SD70s that don't work out of the box and have "thou shalt not reskin or redistribute" anyway, which is useless to me.

EEEK!

Just occurred to me, this is the screenshot forum, no posting screenshots in the beta testing & troubleshooting forum. Or is it the other way around? Anyway, I'll get back in compliance here;

That's the first cab I did, reskin of the generic SD cab. I actually started it in TRS2004 before finishing in TS2010. PON Gen_sd,<kuid:522774:1008>

Justin Cornell made a high hood variation on the generic SD, so I lit it up. PON high-hood interior SHF,<kuid:522774:1020>

This is the one GP30Fan was talking about, PON SW cab,<kuid:522774:1004>

And the new one, available from the humyo link above, not in the file library yet. Lighted SD40-2 cab mechanism,<kuid:522774:1075>

Still some hunting to do, gotta find some type of GEVO or Dash 9 cab, and a generic RS series cab with some actual gauges in it - the ones I've seen just have fake gauges painted into the shell. Needs at least a working speedometer to send the speed info to the Raildriver LED display, can't drive trains without my Raildriver. :cool:

That's customized and mounted sideways like a road switcher stand, the original unmodified looks more like a console style;

Thats the one Sniper. Can you give us a HUMYO
link to SD40-2 cab mechanism,<kuid:522774:1075>

Again... REALLY nice work!

Thanks. That one is the link to the one that's not uploaded yet;

http://www.humyo.com/9455455/lightsd...?a=n4mdDzGZ96g

Two files in there, I had to clone the shell too since this thing maps bits and pieces of textures from both the mechanism and the attachment. For later reference the attachment is Lighted SD40-2 cab shell,<kuid:522774:1002> but for the beta both files are in that one CDP. Anyone who got the "unable to open" error before try downloading it again, fixed now.

Next!

Took a couple days of tedious tenacious tinkering to get an FP45 cab working in TS2010, but finally got to where i can clone and paint it. Also fiddling with an F7 cab;

Not ready for prime time yet. Also been working on figuring out how to "kitbash" parts of cabs to get working controls and gauges into stuff like the RS cabview, haven't had any luck with that yet.
