I guess this is the right place for this, so here goes....
I was wondering if someone from N3V would have an answer to this question (Which might get a bit involved and I apologize if I ramble a bit):
What is the current status of built in routes from previous versions of Trainz?
For example, my interests lie in the North American Continent area, so routes like Tidewater Point from TRS 2004, Marias Pass from Trainz Driver, Marias Pass Approach from TRS 2006, and Harlem line from TC1&2 (all of which I have in TRS2010 and working).
Are they still the property of the original authors, or are they property of N3V?
If they are property of N3V, would it be possible to allow someone to update them to at least TRS2009 and put them up on the DLS?
If they are still property of the original authors, then someone could ask the original authors permission to do so.
For example, the Harlem line could be combined with the GCT half of the route that didn't make it into TC 1&2. The route would then be complete from Grand Central Station to the End of the Harlem line. This would give current and new users a commuter route to start out with.
Marias Pass route (From Trainz Driver). Wow, what else can I say? Gorgeous route, somewhere to run long trains, and fun to run.
Tidewater point, fun little route , not overloaded, great route to start with.
I would suggest that by having these routes updated and made available again, users could always have a base set of routes that scenarios could be written for. A little something that all users would have and could operate with.
Also, by updating them and re releasing them, they will not be lost to the mists of time, never to be seen again except by those who can find an older version of Trainz (if they can) and go though the motions of updating them by themselves.
Hopefully I haven't talked in circles and confused everyone involved.
