Build 4.7?

Hi All,

I have a question about build 4.7.
The release says that objects created or saved in build 4.7 are not backward compatible.
Does this mean that a build 3.7 item imported into build 4.7 is now auto updated to 4.7 or
has to be updated to 4.7 be used?

Its forward compatible, so most objects with a lower build number can be imported into 4.7. You just cant make new stuff with a 4.7 build and take them back to older versions.

BTW no item can be "auto-updated", and the change from 3.5 to 4.6, let alone 4.7 is significant and requires a rewrite of the config file and goodness knows how much work to remake the asset. As said above anything can be brought into a Build 4.7 even build 1.3. Whether they work however is a whole other matter. Anything built in a 4.7 build can not be exported to a lower build. Which means anything made in TRS19 SP2 will NOT work in TRS19 SP1, hence I am holding off updating to yet another version that isn't backwards compatible with itself. Crazy, but maybe there's a good reason?

I believe the backward issue is to do with routes and sessions which save in a different way. Most assets like buildings could be changed to a lower version number.

Thank you for the replies.
I was thinking maybe I was going to have to
update my personal objects to 4.7 for them to
work. I have made thousands of objects so that
would have been a no go for me.

As far as the update goes, I will be holding off
on that as well. I want to see how things shake out.

So it seems the Fostoria route I am making with SP1 can continue to be made with SP2 but, once I do that, it can no longer be run on SP1? I suppose I should save what I have done so far before I upgrade to SP2. Maybe even upload it incomplete to the DLS. Then when complete in SP2, some year soon, upload it to the DLS. That way those still with SP1 can use the incomplete version. But then I expect nearly everyone will upgrade to SP2 and no new users will get SP1 so no point? In any case, I will wait to upgrade for awhile until things "shake out".

SP1 stuff will work in SP2, if you are happier with SP1 you can continue to use it, no pressure ;o)

Rather than clog the DLS with incomplete route/s you should save your route frequently to a CDP on your pc. If you change your mind, you always have a spare older version in SP1, not to mention if something goes wrong you have backups at hand.
