Hey Skid,

How big is the route?
Right now it is only 3 boards and probably will not be over 10 when completed. In real life, BBRR is about 16 miles long but most of that runs thru woodland with no industry or anything else so I plan on leaving out a lot of that.

Nice route and great progress - are you working on it 36 hours a day?!

For points (AKA switches/turnouts) I use Andi Smiths stuff (with animated switch blades etc.) - overview and instructions here:

http://www.ajsmith.nildram.co.uk/trs/junction01.shtml

Look for Author = Andi06 on the DLS.

Snag is they are based on UK practice - I don't know if they are suitable for your line, but worth a look.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks Chris. Actually about 4 or 5 hours a day. (I am retired)

I will check out the Andi06 on DLS.

Concrete Ties

Looks great...But track...Usually only high speed mainlines with class V trackage use concrete ties. Although "MP Wood" & "MP Wood Rusty" is not all that spectacular, it is low poly, and looks pretty good. VMD's US Mainline Old/Dark is one of my favorites...but there are hundereds of other low poly wooden old tie tracks out there.

I like to place my own Checkrail switch throwover levers, as I find the default Auran levers just too strange.

I changed the type of track on the NEC route from Phila to Wilmington, one segment at a time...now it looks great.

Help with a signal

Can anyone give me some help or advise on what kind of signal to put in the area of junction 48 for the small yard ahead?

Changed and added

Okay, I have changed the track and the switches and added signals for what I have completed so far. Hopefully, only small cosmetic changes on the boards I have completed so far. I don't know if the signals are correct as far as size, shape, and placement but I don't want to hear any complaining. I ask for help/advise but didn't get any responses.

Switches and track look much better now in my opinion. ^^

Your route continues to improve and it's really neat seeing you start from scratch to make what you've got now. It's very inspirational!

As for the switches and signals, Tiger313 mentioned looking on google. It could help...and as for placement, you could use google earth to help you if you want to be accurate. I like multimaps.com at times because you can get a "birds-eye" perspective that can really come in handy.

Keep up the great work!

Yup...that good old standby MP Wood and MP Wood Rusty track sure does look good, and I see a high target switch stand in the background, instead of Auran default levers...your route is really looking great !:cool:Very realistic...I like Seniorchief's PRR-"G" signal, and GFisher PRR position light signals...but then again I am an old PRR man. Seniorchief also has various B&O position light signals. I bet there are some really good semiphone blade type signals somewhere, for that old time look ?

Thanks a lot for those words of encouragement. This is especially hard for me seeing as I have no background in railroading at all and do appreciate any help you pass down the line.

I have at least 2 more boards to go. I have one with a quarry and a cement plant and one with the James river where the BBR line joins the main line which in real world runs between Richmond, Va and Lynchburg, Va. There will probable be more than 2 but that is the minimum. I have a movie made on the route yesterday but I am saving it for the "movie of the 2 weeks" competition.

Nice shots. I like the vegetation you have there...it makes it look very realistic!

I am by no means a route building pro, but may I offer a few helpful suggestions?

In your fourth shot, you can sort of see a line along the texturing. Perhaps it would look better if you rotate the texture while you are applying it. It will give it a random look (unless you are trying to show a ploughed-to-the-side look) which will make it look better.

As well, might I suggest swapping out those default trucks? I recommend these KUIDS (if your computer is older than mine and I doubt it is ;) then I'm sure you can handle it and your consists will look much better).

Keep up the great work! I look forward to your next batch of shots!

Hi Skidmark,

I use '04 so I could use trainz objectz to help me. I generally use another program called replacem, which allows me to replace one object in a set of files with another. I'm not sure if this would work with '09 though. I also think there is a program just for this called trainz car tweaker but I never got around to using it much. I suspect you are using '09 though. Unfortunately, I don't have it so I don't know how to use it properly.

Take a look on the forums...you might be able to find a way. Hopefully, someone with 06/09 will know how to help you. :)
