The Brooks Train Lines started back 1985when the CNW wasabandoning a portion of their line. The BTL railroad bought the line and bought3 GP9 from the MRL railroad. They also bought 2 SW1500s. The railroad becameprofitable only after 5 months of owning the line because of the efforts ofkeeping companies to use rail service. The reason for the railroads success wasa large plastic plant that just opened along with numerous grain elevators.

In 1987 the railroad bought 400 miles of track from the UnionPacific railroad. They also bought a variety of locomotives including: GP40,GP38, GP15, GP9, SD40, GP20, SW1200, and SW1500. Only a few of the locomotives were painted. In 1993 the line tripled theirprofits and bought 500 miles of track. They also bought about 20 SD40-2 and 17GP38-2 for the new line and to replace their aging locomotive fleet. Also in 1995 they started putting their new logo (picture above right) on their locomotives to state a new image as a regional railroad.
In 1998 the railroad bought its last purchase for another 278miles of track. In 2005 the railroad celebrated its 20[SUP]th[/SUP] yearanniversary and revealed a special 20[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary paint scheme on one GP38-2 named 1210. They also revealed 6 new SD70MAC that they purchased fromCSX. The railroad became a very profitable railroad and a well-known class 2regional.In 2012 The BTL Railroad decided to buy 10 ES44AC fromGeneral Electric and started to remodel their rail line to accumulate faster trains.
