Bridge help please....

Been following a trs2004-6 tutorial on bridge building and got myself frustrated and in a tangle.
It appears the Surveyor layout is not the same.
Could you explain the basics of putting a rail bridge across a valley, both sides at board level to keep it simple.
Didn't realise I have had TRS2010 for over 12 months and never produced a bridge:o

(obviously not Brunel)

Rog,

To just get the track level across the valley set the spline points at each end of the bridge to a fixed level, 0 (zero), if you are at board (datum) level.

(Splines > Advanced menu > Set height)

Or are you talking about making a bridge from scratch using GMAX / Blender?

Nothing as advanced as that, just placing a bridge across the river, valley etc, keeping the tracks dry so to speak.

Just try setting the spline heights as suggested then.

I am following this tutorial written for 2004, the surveyor controls are different but should make no difference.
The bridges that do the job are too long or leave a gap, I must admit I did not download the bridge illustrated but thought there would be one built-in.
Tunnels are a doddle, bridges have me beat:confused:

Off to download the illustrated bridge.
Sorry for appearing dense, perhaps I am:o

Hi Ghost42.

This might help.

The vast majority of bridges used for running rolling stock are “tracks” rather than objects or spline objects. You must therefore be in the track flyout with the advanced dropdown menu selected.

A lot of bridges lay to the baseboard at track bed level, and don't look like bridges at all. You need to raise them to see the good bits underneath!

In the image, 1, 2 & 3 are the same bridge asset.

1. Lay the bridge and stretch it roughly the length you need. Sometimes it’s easier to lay it on a flat bit of board away from any complex hills.

2. Lift the ends after selecting the “Adjust spline height” button (a)

3. To get each end the same height select the “Get vertex height” button (b) and click on the raised vertex.

You’ll see a number appear in the “Height value” window (c).You can type your own metric value into that window if you want.

Click on the “Apply vertex height” button (d). That value can then be applied to the vertex at the other end of the bridge spline to make it level.

Stretch it as required using the “Move track” button (e).

If necessary you can “Insert new spline point”s (f) in between the two end ones which will automatically be set to the correct height. That allows you to create bends as well as apply gradients.

You then choose whether to build your terrain to the bridge, or vice versa.

Cheers
Casper

To Iterus, yes I was dense, I was trying to use bridges from 'trackside objects', and to Messopresso, thanks Casper for pointing that out and the comprehesive answer.
The replies are my personal sticky.
