Ray Whiley made some nice brick splines that work well as streets. They begin with DDD for Duke's Denver Designs. They are thin enough and there's no traffic on them. They're great for dock areas and station areas so you can place cars, trucks, wagons, etc. If you want to lay railroad tracks, you need to lower the tracks a smidge, maybe 0.6m to get the right track height.
There are some streets by FMA that have a brick texture. These have a darker stripe in the middle as though there were tracks down them. You can than place rail-only splines in them and this works well. Again, you'll need to adjust the height of the track so the rails don't stick up too high.
