Blue is the colour...no no

Hi All
I'm using TRS 2006sp1
In Driver when I switch from one loco to another in a different area I get a few seconds of total blue before the textures, buildings etc load, which in itself is not a problem. However at some point in the game ( always varies, never the same point or the same time into the game ) this " Blue " just stays blue and the game crashes, the error message says " Failed to read block "
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it ?
I've tried re-install, deleteing assests and letting it rebuild, deleting missing assests.
Cheers

You may want to run your system's disk defragmenter to see if the operating system reports any disk errors. I agree that this error sounds like it may require a disk replacement.

And here's my second unhelpful post- I guess it could be a memory error. Do you happen to have any known-good memory hanging around you could swap with?

Thanks for this but I've very little knowledge about computers, this is the only game I've ever played and I bought this computer solely for this purpose it has no other external programmes on it only explorer for downloads and emails.
I've run defrag and all is fine, but I don't understand what your saying about good memory, you need to explain in very very simple terms... sorry but I'm just not into computers other than trainz.
My Spec is 9200 duo core 2.4ghz
Memory 4096mb
Hard drive 640gb raid 0 ( free space 67% )
Graphics card 768mb nvidia geforce 8800 gtx
hope this helps

It sounds like you have a fairly recent machine, so the idea of a disk failure seems less plausible, but not out of the question. I'm completely out of my league when RAID is involved, so I won't offer any suggestions there.

Here's what I would probably do:

1) verify whether this happens in any other program. Maybe play a movie or two and see if you get the blue screen. If you do get the blue screen with other programs, maybe try taking the side panel of the pc off- over-heating can cause funny errors.

2) have you made any recent changes? maybe roll back any updates using system restore (if you're running a windows-based computer)

3) if you haven't made any recent changes AND the blue screen doesn't occur in other programs, then I would be more likely to believe its the trainz installation. Maybe try re-installing in a different directory. This is a only a theory, but maybe an install in a different directory would avoid that bad block.

Thanks
I'm not sure I've explained this right, when I say blue its where the textures etc should be not the whole screen, I can still see the consist and its movement but the " ground " stays blue and eventually crashes.
Under normal circumstances I may see a flash of blue just before the textures load, this can be from less than a second to 2 seconds. I also don't know what the message " failed to read block " means. I also do not understand why it happens on different sections of the layout or at different times, there appears to be no constant reason to trigger it.
I hope I've explained this better now.
Cheers

You probably laid it out clearly and I just wasn't paying close enough attention- as a result none of what I wrote has any value (as you already guessed). Checking around I see that there is an option to change from OpenGL to DirectX in 2006, so maybe switching from your current selection to the other would work.
