Blender 2.5 to 2.6 Questions.

Hey folks,

Been off here for the past few months trying to get a good feel of Blender.

I guess it is best to be able to build and map your models before you can load tyhem into Trainz.

Well, I have spent about 6 hours a day, 5-6 days a week for the past 3 months learning to use Blender. So if there is anyone out there with questions, please ask.

I know I'm going to be asking some questions about getting my models loaded into Trainz.

Here is a pic of one of my models created in Blender using 2.57b
I know this kind of model will not work in Trainz with a poly count of over 30,000, but this will give you an idea of it's possibilities.

Blender 2.5 to 2.6 Questionns

I will be popping in and out every so offten to check this post.

As for Trainz. Boy do I have a lot of questions. :)

SO I am going to be hitting the books and searching the Forums to get the info I need.

Happy Blendeing.

This thread: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=72243

has some useful information about the software needed to export from Blender to Trainz. Despite what the thread title says it's up to date for Blender 2.6.

As for the Trainz side of things the most up to date documentation you will find is on the Trainz Wikis, but it is incomplete. The most up to date pdf Content Creation Guide is the one for TC3 (sorry but I can't find a URL for it).

There is plenty of information on the forums, the problem is finding it. The built in search is pretty weak, a better way is to use Google and enter:

site:forums.auran.com trainz forums "your search text".

for example:

site:forums.auran.com trainz forums blender

This will return results from the Trainz forums rather than a "random selection".

Thanks itareus,

I will look into that. Also , your right. The search is very weak in this forum. I will try using Google search engine as you suggested.

Thanks again.

You are very welcome.

All the links to the CCGTC.pdf that I could find are either wrong or dead. If you want a copy, send me a PM with your email address and I'll email you one over.

Nice Porsche by the way, just like the one I have in my garage :hehe: .

It's a nice thing to know, that at our age, we still have an imagination. LOL

Thanks for the offer, I still have a copy of all the CCGTC for the 2009 build that I am using.

I do have another Question. I noticed that most of the models I see buildt for Trainz use a triangular topoligy. In Blender, we are taught to use Quads on all our models, since triagles tend to distort during animation. Will quads work in Trainz?

I think I am going to get started on a loco model. By the way, what is a good poly count for the average locomotive?

Told ya I had a lot of questions. LOL
The questions that the CCGTC can not answer. ;)
