Blank Mesh for British Coaches/Locos??

Learning... slowly!
Hi,

I'd like to experiment with reskinning some coaches into non-prototypical liveries, and was wondering if it's possible to get a blank mesh of British Railways Mark 1 or Mark 2 coaches as freeware, for me to play with. It'd be purely for personal use; I'm a beginner so chances are my reskins wouldn't be of such quality that other people would want them on the DLS anyway!

I'm sorry if this is a really cheeky request - I know the rules on re-skinning something that's already been released on the DLS but I wasn't sure whether anyone made blank meshes available too?

I've tried reskinning a coach on Paint.net using layers, but with that method, the colour of the original skin dictates which colours you can put on the new skin because of the transparency of the layer - so I couldn't reskin a maroon Mk1 into a light blue, for example, because the maroon is too dark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm more interested in the Mark 2 to be honest, but beggars cannot be choosers!
Also, if there's any blank meshes of locos available for free I'd be really interested too.

Many thanks!

I'm afraid I can't give you any tips on coaches, however if I may suggest using GIMP2 to reskin instead of paint? Once you learn how to do it, it's very straight-forward and the results are so much better than what paint can provide :)

OP is using Paint.Net, not Paint. There is no identifiable difference between what can be achieved with Paint.Net and Gimp.

Layer transparency is not a suitable method of altering color. Use one of the color substitution effects instead - Advanced Recoloring or Recolor Choice can both convert that maroon to any other color. Advanced Recoloring with a Threshold of 2 and roughness of 14 produces an excellent result. Use your layers to select the portions of the image to recolor, so you do not accidentally affect the roof, for instance.

No worries Jack :)

I have a problem; None of the good coaches that I have (ie those with clear windows and interiors) have the .tga files. They've just got the old .im files, so can't do anything with them. Anyone know where I can get a mesh?

Trainzproroutes has some GWR coaches that use .tga files for the textures and you can reskin them if you so desire.

Cheerio John
