Beta Problems in TRS2009

I always find it hilarious to read that somebody else decides what the other guy experiences as a lot of money. Only $ 30,00 means nothing to one person but somebody else possibly has to feed his entire family from it. This is not only a problem of the Trainz community but I have seen it at other communities as well. Perhaps people should just accept it when one person says he or she considers $ 30,00 a lot of money.

I consider this thread to be one of the more childish ones that I've read on the forum in a while, so I'm not sure I want to bother responding to it...but, I'm going to anyway...

While I agree that everyone has different financial means and that we should be respectful of that, it really has nothing to do with this discussion. The poster in question never said that they couldn't afford it, they said that it was a "rip off". Thinking that something isn't worth the money, and not being able to afford that item are two different things.

Also, while we're on the subject of financial means, I hear the occasional forum members complain about the cost of certain payware items (usually $5 or $10). No doubt there are a few who feel the same way about the latest version of the game. While I'm sure some of them truely can't afford the items, it does make me wonder how someone so unable to spend $5 (or even $30) manages to afford a spiffy computer capable of running Trainz in the first place.

For goodness sake!!!
Talking about price, bugs Etc.
Don't you realise it's a Beta program released so you can comment on it and suggest fixes (within reason) that you would like to see. You are being invited to be part of the development team, and for that you should be grateful.

Pete.

I got my computer with a loan, but even before I got my computer I still couldn't have afforded it. Well, I could afford them, but it was more of a value for money thing, I only paid £20 for TRS2004 so I didn't find it value for money to get buy some payware that costs £8.

£20 for the entire game that comes with content and access to thousands of content that is equally good to payware.
£5-10 for one single item.....

Not value for money in my opinion.

Hi
Why not point out the bugs, and politely ask for help.
Quite a few so-called bugs in 2006 are through external problems and are nothing to do with Auran, or 2006. If they are in 2006, they can be fixed, as I said you only have to ask.

Payware This is easy; you don't have to buy it, any version of Trainz will run without it.
If it didn't then complaints in this Forum would be justified. Otherwise, its between you and the payware vendor, and don't belong here. I could just as well say I was ripped off when I bought a washing machine, because they didn't tell me I needed washing powder/liquid for it to clean properly. Get my point.
Pete.

Well of course there are going to be bugs. This what the Beta version is for. This when the developer has taken the first version of the prigram with its obvious bugs fixed, and is now having everyone put the software through its paces. It's at this point where the real software bugs show their heads.

This is the toughest phase in software development because some things are broken while other things are being fixed. That is why there are different builds and beta versions. Each build is supposed to have repaired the first round of bugs and make the software better and better.

By the time the program is released, hopefully the developer has had a chance to remove the real show stoppers, and the other smaller less bothersome ones can be removed with patches and updates.

I hope this explains this well to you Glenn. I want to see you grow with the hobby/program rather than be chased away be the mean spirits that sometimes swirl around here in the forums.

Please list the bugs that you have seen from your perspective....perhaps people on the forum may help you correct or advise a work-around for you.

No need to list CMP, as that has been an ongoing issue since TRS 2006 for many people.

As has been posted above, all software has bugs.

Have fun,

I think thats a bad example because a washing machine won't clean your clothes if you don't use washing powder/liquid. It will just soak them with warm water. Last time I checked Trainz would work without payware.

Then you have not got ETQW then, after installing it needs a 640meg patch so you can play it without it crashing.

I wish people would stop referring to it as a game, it is a simulation, two completely different beasts, a game only has to keep track of maybe 30 or so characters and a few bullets in a very limited environment, where as TRS has to keep track of maybe a couple of hundred items (every wagons physics are calculated separately) keep track of any number of scripts, on a very large map, some of them over 200 boards, is it any wonder the AI goes screwy

Cheers David

Problems in TRS2009

While not related to problems with TRS2009 there was some mention of price.. My computer cost £1000 four years ago..... Now I can buy a computer with twice the spec of mine for £250 from PC World.... so before I invest £30 for TRS2009 I have to spend £250 to be able to run it!!!!!

Hi David,
Very good points, if I may add something.
Like you rightly pointed out, its a simulation. A simulation is 'A simulation of real life'.
If in real life the train driver (Brit term) receives the wrong information, then the whole system gets screwed up.
Of course, no simulation, road, air, sea or train, could truly reflect real life simply because real life is evolving every second of every day, but most of them, including Trainz, has a darn good try.

Cheers

I don't think this is related at all. The question is:- Would you buy a new computer anyway? Surely, you don't use your computer just for one program. That my friend, would be a waste.

Cheers
Pete.
