Ben Neal's Narrow Gauge Locos

Hi All,

Has anyone found a fix for Ben Neal's narrow gauge locomotives from Subpar Productions. Practically every one of them has the same thing wrong: the ury21_b2, which is an invisible bogie, needs its mesh repaired. It appears that the engine_black texture is missing, which is interesting, since the bogie is supposedly invisible. If I knew how to do it, I would. In any case, a "fix" would repair a number of locomotives.

In one sense an invisible part really isn't invisible - just as difficult to see as necessary.Something very small, textured with as transparent a texture as you can make, or both but there must be an actual part no matter how small. If there isn't one you get a "nothing to export" error when trying to make the image file.

Examples: You can not export an attachment point all by itself. Ditto a dighole. Both must have "something" to export tho it can be as small as a triangluar plane (3 polys).

Ben (who found out this the hard way, ha ha).

Beware, once you get it to "show up" you may still find it has drive-ability issues. I know his standard gauge models did in TS12 (I as understand it, TS-MAC is basically TS10, which is quite similar to TS12)

I needed to get new engine spec files, which bill69 was very kind to make for/supply to me.

Thanks for the input. I'm not concerned with the fact that the bogie is invisible, I'm concerned with the fact that it is faulty and affects a number of those narrow gauge locomotives. The dependency that is faulty is the ury21_b2. The error message one gets with this is engine_black texture is missing or cannot be loaded. As I said above, if I knew how to fix it (i.e., make an engine_black texture image), I would do so, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to do that.

I think there may be mesh problems with some of Ben's locos. I've tried to fix the missing texture problems on some of his assets by creating the missing texture, and that's fixed some of them and not fixed others.

If you haven't got a graphics program such as PSP or the Gimp just copy any black.tga file from an asset and stick that in the folder.

Better idea, here is a link to download the black.tga I made to fix that bogie http://www.mediafire.com/?wuev1g1309r2tdt that should solve the problem

Edit:
Just make sure that the file engine_black.texture.txt is present, if not create it and add the following

primary=black.tga

Thats all thats needed as its invisible anyway.

Malc,

Thanks. It worked! Just had to change the name of the .tga to engine_black.tga. This fix will probably also fix a number of Ben Neal's locomotives that are faulty because of a faulty mesh.

Malc,

just a quick note to let you know you created a monster. Your help was just the push I needed to learn about some of the nuts and bolts associated with content. I went back and repaired all the Ben Neal locos in my "stable" that were faulty or had missing dependencies. Then I fixed a number of rolling stock. Many had faulty bogies. Quick fix was to substitute a bogie from a car that was working. There were at least 5 locomotives with invisible bogies needing your engine_back.tga. Again, thanks for the help.
