Beginner's Questions

:oI have just gotten my TrainzSimulator12 operational, but cannot figure out how to do anything but run the train already on a route. I was pretty good at the old Microsoft Simulator but don't see: 1. how to add a new consist (I put in the ATSF Super Chief but it has no locomotive). 2. How does one set up AI Traffic so you can see trains as you pass them or set a timetable? I am more interested at this point in passenger train operation than freight. 3. How does one filter through all the content available on the download site for what one wants (e.g. an PRR MP-54 or a new route?). I am sure there are tutorials for these simple questions, but I can't find them.

Hi :)

To add a new consist to a track, you can go through the list of locomotives and rolling stock built-in to the game, find the one(s) you want, select them and then click the track where you want it to appear. You can do this many times to create a train as long as you like.

There is a PRR MP54 on the Download Station. If you enter your Content Manager, click 'search' on the left hand side, then in the box next to 'Name' type PRR MP54 and there is one by user magicland. Right click and download and it will download, then once it has finished it will be visible in your rolling stock/locomotive section in surveyor.

There are also many routes around, particularly based on North America. There is one called Cajon Pass Xtreme by user wridenour. I've not downloaded it but you could try and have a look :)

Gramps, there's a manual located on your hard drive at ..Program Files\N3V\TS12\Extras\Documentation\TS12 Manual. Surveyor mode is discussed starting on page 81.

To place a loco or consist:
1. Launch TS12
2. Select Route
3. Click on a route from the list
4. Click on View Sessions
5. Click on Create Session
6. Click the Trains tab (or press F7 key). This will put you in the Vehicle mode to place individual locos or cars. The Consist mode lets you place pre-defined consists. You can toggle between the two mode by click the icons or pressing C or T keys.
7. Click on a loco in the list then click on the track to place it.
8. Repeat to place rolling stock.
9. Click Quick Drive (or press F2 key) to drive your train.

Thank you both for responding so quickly. I have a problem with placing the train. I tried the default NEC Wilmington-Philadelphia route and when I tried to place a train on the track, I got the 30th Street Station Building on top of the track and couldn't move it to place the train. Also how do I place AI trains to run on a timetable? Thanks for your help so far.
